Edwards did REALLY Well Tonight
Methinks he'll pull a pretty strong second in Wisconsin, then prove pretty competitive on Super Tuesday. I still think Kerry will be the nominee, but an Edwards nomination isn't so far out of the realm of plausibility, and, if nothing else, he'll make Kerry fight for it some.

4. thanks guys--I thought so too but I am biased
so it is good to see some other people thought so do.

I thought Kerry started out strong but finished more weakly. Sharpton was his usual fabulous self. Dean had some good points and some not so strong. Kucinich had some great moments.

why are these morons on MSRNC surprised that Edwards did not "attack"--when he would humiliate himself if he did so because he would contradict every value he's espoused?

6. he got the light jab in at Kerry
for the 4 minute answer to a yes or no question, but other than that stayed his normal positive self.

I really like Edwards

2. Yes he did.
I could connect with Dean, Edwards and Kucinich. Kerry gave me chills.

18. The contrast between Edwards and Kerry
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 09:16 PM by cmorea
Kerry can be seen (and has been, though not so much lately) as cold, aloof, and aristocratic. His speaking style is a cross between FDR and Ted Kennedy. Thouroughly twentieth century.

Edwards is extremely personable and appealing, especially to working-class Americans. He brings a fresh vitality to American politics.

3. He said a couple things I've heard first here at DU...from me.
The thing about FDR and Lincoln being great war time presidents. He also threw in Wilson.

That whole thing about Bush being in the way of progress came at the end of making the same point I've been trying to make here the last few days: that Democrats need to run on their strengths (which started by noting that Iraq is the LAST thing WI voters care about, so why are we letting Bush run on it?).

9. I read that Elizabeth Edwards goes around asking people who
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 08:08 PM by AP
tell her they post on DU what their screen names are.

I think she might be looking for me (and you and DjTj and a couple others).

In any event, they're reading DU closely enough that EE knows our screen names.

By the way, I don't think I'm saying anything that's such a mystery that well-paid professionals can't figure out.

16. That's cool.
I met her once a while back but that was before I even started posting on DU. I'll try to find her if she's in Maryland before Super Tuesday.

23. Edwards confirmed that when I met him
He lit right up when I mentioned that his wife read DU, and that was back in December.

I wonder if he still has that speech I gave him...?

He was great tonight and Kerry was bloodless; I hope everyone in Wisconsin was watching.

10. He finally took it to Kerry tonight...
...albeit in a nice-guy Edwards kind of way.

I think Edwards would have benefitted more if Dean had just gone after Kerry a little bit more; I'm not sure what to read into Dean going soft...

17. We hear a lot about who Republicans fear in the General Election.
I live in a really super Republican area. Most of them are really more afraid of Edwards than anyone. Edwards seems kind, honest, compassionate and very intelligent. He's well mannered, which plays well down here, and is POSITIVE in his assessment of the country.

He's the kind of guy that might inspire in the mold of Kennedy, if he can hold it together. Most people down here believe Edwards WILL be President someday, if not now, then 2008.

But Kucinich kicks ass...;)

Those brochures you get in the mail with pictures of a local candidate and his family. Too phony.

21. I thought so too and I am going to vote for him
Am a Clark supporter and can tolerate Kerry as our nominee, but am really liking Edwards alot.

Too bad he gains ground just at the last minute and not enough to take the prize.

I hope he at least somes in a much stronger than expected second to get the VP nod.

24. I believe he could be the nominee
Between the probability of Edwards taking key Southern states that Kerry can't get, and the notion that a Massachusetts liberal can't beat Bush, I think Edwards is the stronger of the two. It all depends on if Dean drops out soon, or stays in long enough to split the Kerry-alternative. If Dean drops out in the next week or two, it becomes a Kerry vs. Edwards race, and the momentum shifts to Edwards.
