The Evolution of Neoconservatism...
Edited on Thu Jul-19-07 10:52 PM by hey hey
I came across this link the other day. It is a great breakdown in philosophical terms on Neoconservatism with excellent hyperlinks...

http://www.raisethehammer.org/blog.asp?id=700

It's a good read and very informative on the evolution and sheer arrogance of Neoconservative thought... really puts into perspective why we are in the mess we are in in Iraq...

4. it really is
I knew alot about PNAC there is a good website on PBS frontline about that whole movement... but didnt realize that it all sprung from some college professor and the William Kristols father... their entire philosophy is based on megalomania big-brother ethnocentrism... it is truly scary though how theh have infiltrated our government and how much control they have over the executive branch...

5. Social Democrats, USA incubated these parasites.
Neoconservatives generated from then Senator Henry Jackson's supporters who used Social Democrats, USA as an incubator/thinktank. Google Social Democrats and see them still being 5th columnists.

http://www.socialdemocrats.org/

Look at how they laud over such a repulsive maggot as Penn Kemble--the architect of the Contras. Sick, Sick, Sick!

6. yes that's an interesting story in its own right
Edited on Fri Jul-20-07 03:53 AM by Douglas Carpenter
Social Democrats USA was founded by (ex) Trotskyite Max Schactman out of a three way split from the old Socialist Party of Norman Thomas and Eugene Debs.

One center-left faction lead by Michael Harrington (author of "The Other America" - a book that greatly influenced LBJ and the Great Society's War on Poverty) formed the Democratic Socialist Organizing Committee later after a merger with the New American Movement they changed their name to the current Democratic Socialist of America (DSA). They seek to advance democratic-socialist ideals within the Democratic Party.

A leftwing faction lead by former Milwaukee Mayor Frank Zeidler formed the Socialist Party USA which sought and still seeks to remain a distinct third party and remains committed to Debsian democratic-socialist orthodoxy.

And then of course the rightwing faction of Social Democrats USA lead by Max Schactman. Schactman had been a leader in the early days of the American Communist Party and became later a devoted follower and personal friend of Leon Trotsky. Then for various reasons he became an extreme anti-Communist. When he joined the Socialist Party then lead by Norman Thomas he attempted with some success in driving the Socialist Party to the same position even blocking efforts at seeing the Socialist Party oppose the Viet Nam war.

Early devotees of Social Democrats USA include Richard Perle and Elliot Abrams.

They held as political heroes and gurus of course Senator Henry (Scoop) Jackson and U.N. Ambassador Jeane Kirkpatrick

7. Wikipedia has a good entry on Neoconservatism
Though they tell a rather different story about its origins:

"Neoconservatism" is a political movement that emerged as a rejection of liberalism and the New Left counter-culture of the 1960s. It coalesced in the 1970s and was influential in the Reagan administration, George H. W. Bush administration, and George W. Bush administration. It has received so much attention because it represented a realignment in American politics and the defection of "an important and highly articulate group of liberals to the other side."
