Clark supporters and well wishers only
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 07:15 AM by robbedvoter
I see that our being otherwise engaged has left the space to trolls badmouthing our man. Well, Skinner, will we have a thread, or we are out of DU now?
Haven't been here for a few days and I am quote dismayed of the way the bile flows. It's like being at New York Times or Judy Woof Woof show.
I guess we need to pursue our endeavors elsewhere then. Bye!

This Clark Democrat is no longer part of DU - but Clarkies, please follow me to sunnier shores and worthwile endeavors - we still

We'll follow the old man wherever he wants to go
As long as he wants to go opposite to the foe
We'll stay with the old man wherever he wants to stay
As long he stays away from the battle's fray
Because we love him, we love him
Especially when he keeps us on the ball
And we'll tell the kiddies we answer duties' call
With the grandest son of a soldier of them all

So rather than let yourself battered by mindless punditry, come with me!

16. Thanks for the website
I went to Yahoo looking for the Clark site, & found 291 groups.
So thanks for this info. I have just registered & joined. I've
wanted to continue to organize for Wes Clark at the grass roots
level. It's amazing how the General touched so many people & really struck a chord as to patriotism, democracy, & idealism.

I will continue to be a part of DU. I enjoy the exchange with people from all spectrums of the party, & supporters of various candidates.

See you at Yahoo!

2. The road ahead

The Road Ahead: General Wes Clark's Feb.11 2004 Statement on Future Plans.
"Finally, let me say this:
I'm going to fight on, and I hope you will join me, until we win the campaign to create a new vision for America in the twenty-first century. Because I believe America's best days lie ahead. Today, I end my campaign for the presidency - but our party's campaign to change America is just beginning. And folks, this old soldier will not fade away. I'll be in the field and out in front, working the issues, supporting our candidates, and doing all I can to contribute to building a new and better America.
Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America. " --- Wesley Clark

5. This is NOT about gratification, it's about service to others
Edited on Sun Feb-15-04 07:44 AM by robbedvoter
While many here thought we Clarkies were blinded by an uniform, iti's ideals like service to the country, democracy that fueled most of us. It can be gratifying too if you are willing to raise your face from the punditocracy muck.

And why I will support our Party's nominee, to continue this campaign until we take back the White House next November. This soldier stands ready for duty. And I need every single one of you to join me in this battle. Because this was never about my future. It was a call to duty, not of ambition. Of service to country, not to self. It was always about America's future. And that future will be decided in this election. It's not going to be easy. So I've got one bit of advice for our nominee: give 'em hell and never retreat.

here's what it means in the larger scheme

kentucky_special_1

Democrat Ben Chandler, loser in the gubernatorial election to Fletcher,
has been ahead of Republican rival Alice Forgy Kerr in the polls from
the beginning of the current campaign.

If he wins, it would be the first time since 1991 that Democrats have
won a Republican-held seat in a special election."

7. Calm Down!
There has been many positive posts pertaining to Clark. I personally started a couple. He is stilll an active issue on the board. As has been brought up we can see Clark as VP.,Sec. of State but not Sec. of Defense ( hasn't been outa service the required 10 years ).

I know you have been a Clark draft supporter going way back as well as I. You should know by now these smears will never end.

Take a deep breath, stick around and continue the good fight. Clark isn't going anywhere. Rest assured we will be hearing of Clark very soon once the nominee is chosen. Remeber something also, Clark has never given up on anything he has tried his entire life. The guy is still fairly young and he did a hell of a great job his first run at public office ( let's not even talk about the black out, smears ).

BTW, I think the way you just dropped a post like that directing other followers of Clark to "follow" is a bit shallow. The truest beleif i've seen in people that follow Clark are folks that lead themselves. They aren't the "sheep" that we have seen this election.

9. Finding Clark a "job" is not a positive thing in my book
It's obvious yo me that all Clarkies who are in it for the right reason are not here - which is not a very bad thing as it turns out. A hint:

"This election is not about health care, or even about Iraq. It's about democracy. And we will not let Bush steal our democracy away from us."
Wes Clark

See, silly me, thought some DU-ers will be in sync with that. Instead I am supposed to be happy with your musical chairs fantasy? No, my friend. This is a higher calling and you missed it so don't you tell me to calm sown, nor presume to use the word "shallow" about me.

This was not just a campaign, but a cause too - and the cause goes on whether you catch on to it or not.

of our best candidate. But it is now clear that I was wallowing in the muck of punditocracy. Thanks for the clarification.

11. Clark has raised the level of discussion - it was what attracted me to him
I am sad that his leaving the race sunk this place back into the race horse my guy is better than your guy level.

Remember when the discussion used to go like this?

Bill Maher: want to read you a quote, because Howard Dean said "...In Vermont, you know, politics is much farther to the left. A Vermont centrist is an American liberal right now." And then his campaign manager came out and said "That's not an admission he's a liberal!" Which, quite frankly pissed me off. Somehow they hijacked that word. And you're a Democrat, you said that last week.

Clark: Absolutely. (audience applause)

Maher: OK. I'm just wondering, of all the people who have the credentials to say "liberal" is not a bad word, I'm wondering if I could get you to say that.

Clark: Well, I'll say it right now.

Maher: Good for you!

Clark: We live in a liberal democracy. That's what we created in this country. It's in our constitution! We should be very clear on this... this country was founded on the principles of the enlightenment. It was the idea that people could talk, have reasonable dialogue and discuss the issues. It wasn't founded on the idea that someone would get struck by a divine inspiration and know everything, right from wrong. People who founded this country had religion, they had strong beliefs, but they believed in reason, and dialogue, and civil discourse. We can't lose that in this country. We've got to get it back.

Maher: Thank you. (audience applause)

Clark: Can I follow up on that?

Maher: Yes!

Clark: A lot of people have said, what are you interested in? Why would you even consider running? Isn't it just about Iraq? It really isn't. Iraq is part of it, I think our foreign policy has serious problems, but I think the economy and the way the administration has dealt with the economy has serious problems. But more fundamental than that, it's about what kind of country we want to live in. I think this nation wants an open, transparent government. I think it likes the two-party system. I think it likes to hear reasoned dialogue, not labeling, name-calling, hateful politics. I think 2004 is the election the voters have to put that back in.

And I only remind you this because many of us are still working for it while you do the post-mortem of the campaign and try to find Clark a job.

12. Thanks for the links
I do appreciate. Some of us are looking for ways to keep the grassroot organizations as a power in the election and the Party. I think helping to get Democrats elected at the local, state and national level is a good place to start. See you over there!

14. Leah, DU is more than GE-2004
and I like DU. I was able to participate in the Clarkblog and DU at the same time. Nothing stopping us from doing the same with other Wes Clark websites.

AND...when the Dean supporters got mad at the negatives here and made a fuss and started their own group, I thought it was stupid and immature. I think the same about this.

A flame from a fan.

15. It's not a flame. You make some good points.
It's just that I was away only a few days and I see that not only wre we not officially no loger recongnised, but the level of discussion...Oy!
Of course we have places to congregate - I wasn't talking to myself these past few days. I come on DU and it's like Judy Wooff Woof is running the place.
Everyone is trying to adjust Clark to the Procustean bed of politics and politicians.
man is a leader - always led - always will. So whatever you may think, those of us who touched greatness and got him - are being led towards the future.
As he said to Bob Dole:
"You have your job, I have mine. Yours is to handicap the race, mine is to talk to mpeople"

Wake up call, our man Clark dropped out of the race. Once again things really haven't changed in the "few days" you have been gone. The same positive and negative threads continue.

Take a step back! You truly come across as someone going over the deep end!
