Davis (D-AL-7) calls for Siegelman probe (Mobile Register)
Saturday, July 07, 2007
By SEAN REILLY
Washington Bureau

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, D-Birmingham, stepped up his advocacy of convicted former Gov. Don Siegelman on Friday, formally urging the House Judiciary Committee to include Siegelman's case in an upcoming hearing on allegations of selective prosecution by the U.S. Justice Department.

In the letter to committee Chairman John Conyers, D-Mich, Davis stopped short of professing Siegelman's innocence. But he touched on other arguments circulated by the Siegelman camp, including a reference to a Republican lawyer's recent affidavit suggesting that the White House might have had a hand in his prosecution.

Davis also noted that one former U.S. attorney in Washington state has testified that Republican officials pressed him to indict Democrats involved in voter registration efforts during a governor's race. ~snip~

1. I just did a google search on Rove, Siegelman, Alabama...got quite a few hits.

They are sorted by date. Good to see it getting attention, even if not enough.

And we know Rove has been messing in Alabama politics at least since 1994, when he started on the "activist judges."

5. More about Siegelman and the stolen election:
In 2002 Siegelman was running for his second term against repug nominee Bob Riley.

On election night we went to bed thinking Siegelman had won by a narrow margin.
The next morning...VIOLA...Riley won.

Very late at night, in my county (Baldwin), about 3000 votes 'switched sides'. Just enough to put Riley over the top.
The repug probate judge (Baldwin County is about 75-80% repug) said it was an earlier 'computer glitch'.
Unh hunh, right.

Siegelman wanted a recount but knew that our repug attorney general would stop that any way he could so he decided to concede and come back to fight another day.

Because of the charges brought against him by the U.S. attorney he was so smeared he couldn't even get the Dem nomination in 2006, which he ordinarily would have been a shoo-in for.

Yep, Karl and 'the girls' (U.S. attorneys in Alabama) made sure Siegelman wouldn't be a threat any more.
:grr:

6. That is a very interesting story
It's hard to imagine that she has any motive to lie, and she's certainly not on our side politically
