3. I don't understand how this works
Do they have to bicycle across the Channel? Anyone who can do that certainly has my admiration!

I assume they record all the times and positions at some point in England and then resume in France, using that as the base. Still, I like the image of them trundling across the sea bottom, while crowds of mermaids cheer them on. No need to throw water on them for refreshment, though.

4. They put balloon tires on their bikes.
They add all the times for each stage and the person with the lowest accumulated time is the winner. there are also races within the race. You have team classifications, best climber, best sprinter, best youth, and most steroids (most combative).

The first week you will see some scary pack sprints, then the mountains. That is where you see the men separated from the boys. It is a test to see who can endure the most pain and who can regain a measure of consciousness before they hit the first fast downhill curve.

Lance Armstrong was not only a freak of nature, he had the best team ever assembled, and had the smartest coaches and managers. Nothing happened on the road without them knowing about it and reacting to it. they were in total control. I know a lot of people are glad he is retired.
