Richardson claims to have overtaken Obama in Iowa, moved into 3rd place...

Dear Supporter,

I have been doing polling for political
candidates for over 25 years. And what I am seeing happen right now in
Iowa is nothing short of amazing.

The Governor has rocketed up 10% among likely Iowa caucusgoers in
just three months, and now stands at 13%. No other Democratic candidate
has made gains anywhere close to that over the same time period. In
fact, amongst the likeliest caucusgoers (those who attended the 2004
caucuses, voted in the 2006 primary and are definite to attend next
year's caucus) the Governor has overtaken Senator Obama for 3rd place.

1. Good news from Howard Dean... I mean, Bill Richardson!
I've been here before, and I don't want to get my hopes up.

4. The poll
The poll of 500 likely Iowa caucus-goers was conducted for the Richardson campaign by Fairbank, Maslin, Maullin and Associates June 18-20 and has a margin of error of + 4.4%.

Governor Richardson is now solidly in double-digits in both Iowa and New Hampshire. A CNN-WMUR TV poll following the June 3 debate had the Governor at 10%, as did last month's poll published in the Des Moines Register.

Here are the results to the question "If the caucuses were held today, who would you support?" (likely caucus-goers)

John Edwards 34%
Hillary Clinton 24%
Barack Obama 17%
Bill Richardson 13%
Joe Biden 2%
Dennis Kucinich 2%
Chris Dodd 0%
Other 1%
Don't Know/NA 8%

Here are the results to the same question, broken out among "likeliest" caucus-goers (representing just over 40% of the sample - voters who attended the 2004 caucuses, voted in the 2006 primary, and say they are definite to attend next year's caucus):

John Edwards 31%
Hillary Clinton 23%
Bill Richardson 18%
Barack Obama 16%
Joe Biden 3%
Dennis Kucinich 2%
Chris Dodd 0%
Other 1%
Don't Know/NA 8%

7. So
he's using a small subset of his own poll to claim he's in 3rd place. I guess you gotta do what you gotta do to raise funds, especially now that he's raised expectations about beating Edwards this quarter, but I hope no one here takes it seriously.

14. I support Richardson and hope he increases popularity
although I would love to have a young, incredible African American in office, I think what we need right now is an experience and mature person who excels in Diplomacy, doesn't constantly talk about his "faith", and hasn't taken a lot of money for corporations.

I would love it if Kucinch wins, but Richardson is the next best thing to being the peace candidate.

I watched Richardson work the crowd in Des Moines, IA on CSPAN and he was genuine and did not make condending remarks that I often see most candidates do.

I hope those who only have Network TV get more chances to see Richardson.

15. Richardson used to be a top choice of mine
But he does pathetically in debates. Really a dismal public speaker. I agree he is exceptionally well-qualified but he'd have a hard time winning a general election with his campaigning skills.
