delaware plan
there is a proposal out there called the 'delaware plan' which I think is a great idea.

it would split the primary/caucus days for president up into four 'super tuesdays'

starting with the 12 smallest states going on the first tuesday, then the next 13 smallest, followed by the next 13 finally the last 12 large states.

this would extend the primary season, and give people a chance to check out the candidates further. additionally it might actually add some drama to conventions, later primaries as there will be more jostling early on.

Furthermore it would end this leapfrogging that we see happening now, as states try to get earlier and earlier with their primary/caucus dates, shorten the overall length, reduce the amount of money spent. how? with an extended primary season, we would not see all this campaigning we see going on now, which started 12 months before the first primary/caucus. instead candidates would have to wait, spend money smarter, wisser as the actually primary season will be changed.

also i disagree with the idea that Iowa, New Hampshire must be first in the nation. why is it this way anyhow? it is something that started about 50 years ago and no one challenged.

both parties would obviously have to agree to this plan, so neither party would get a head start because their primary season was so compressed.

finally the delaware plan might actually make the conventions have some meaning again, instead of the boredom they have become.

1. Sounds good but doubtful
Seems like we have to first experience "Super Tuesday" and see what a mistake it was.

Electing a President has become more like a reality show than the important decision it really is.
