Republican Rep urges condoms for border control w/ Mexico
No shit. You just can't make this stuff up. And unfortunately, it happens to be my lousy, hypocritical idiot of a congressman who believes that condoms will solve the immigration problem from Mexico.

"A slower rate of growth of Mexico's population would improve the economy of Mexico. It would also reduce the environmental pressure on Mexico's ecosystem. But a slower rate of growth would also reduce the long-term illegal immigration pressure on America's borders," reasoned Rep. Mark Kirk, who also supports stronger border security in the short-term.

In reality, fertility rates have plunged in Mexico since 1980, when an average couple would have five or more children. Now, the country's fertility rate has dropped to 2.5 children, compared to 2.1 for the United States, according to United Nations data.

And if you really want to read about what a slimeball Kirk is, check out Ellen of the Tenth's blog; she's always up on all the scoop about Kirk as well as many other issues facing our country.

1. Hmm. Well, he may be a slimebag on Immigration..

..but I just pulled up his issues pages, and for a Republican.. it's amazing he has a 100% pro-choice record, is really strong on gun control laws, and is for using stem cells for research.

He was also appointed by President Clinton to work on the restoration of democracy in Haiti.

Sounds like he knows how to work across party lines anyway..

You're right though, his border plan sounds wacked!

2. This guy may be on to something
Maybe this is a way that we can convince right wingers that birth control is a good thing.
