9 guys died in that fire and were honored as heros. And here come the political assholes to exploit
them.

It is traditional, at times like this, for brother and sister firefighters to gather at the site of the memorial to pay their respects.

The piper pipes that saddest of songs, Danny Boy.

Righteous tears are shed.

Salutes are rendered and hugs of comfort given.

Any person elected to pubic office who has connection to the fallen is welcome and their presence appropriate. Mayor Riley and Governor Easley come to mind.

The names Michael Chertoff, Mike Huckabee and Rudy Ghoulliani do NOT come to mind.

Among others.

Political bloodsucking is all their presence represents.

3. Dodd, Edwards, Biden, and Richardson's wife were there, too.

I don't like Hillary much, but at least she had the decency not to show up -- as the result of which I now like her just a little better. Edwards *almost* can kind of get away with it, being from a neighboring state; but none of the others had the slightest reason to be there other than for a photo op. Chertoff was especially disgusting; he's such a fucking ghoul. Looks like he's been dead for years. Fortunately, at least Rudy didn't get to deliver his "9/11! 9/11! By the way, did you know I was the mayor of New York on 9/11?" speech.

What a bunch of grifters and hucksters and mountebanks.

7. This is a case where the issue transcends party
I wasn't sure which Dems showed up, so rather than risk the ire of their supporters I mentioned none of them.

"What a bunch of grifters and hucksters and mountebanks."

Indeed

9. You got that right. At least they didn't offer to orate,
but they made sure they were photographed paying their respects. None of them should have been there, Republicans or Democrats.

6. It was disgusting....Ghoulliani is the worst...
I don't know if any of you have been to a Police officer, Firemans or a Military funeral... as with any funeral the event is very somber but I experienced a Police officers funeral

the bagpipes....the sullen bagpipes.....ripped my heart apart.....

This was a day to honor fallen firefighters, not preening politicians.

12. firefighters
Biden was specifically invited by Pres.Harold Shaitbarger and Charleston Mayor Joe Riley.
He is the Co-Chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus. He flew down with a delegation of Delaware Firefighters to honor their fallen brothers. Senator Biden has a longstanding personal relationship with firefighters.

13. John Edwawds, Chris Dodd, and Joe Biden were also there...
We should be fair and not only mention the Republicans who showed up. Are you also criticizing Edwards, Dodd, and Biden? To their credit they did not ask to speak...but they were there.

14. Chertoff
"...the nine firefighters demonstrated the same bravery our nation witnessed on Sept. 11.
The tragedy of Monday reminds us that we live in a world in which danger is all around us."

is very well regarded (as is John Kerry) by the firefighters' unions.
