Moore says Weinstein Wanted Clinton Scene Cut from Sicko

Michael Moore is getting a lot of mileage out of the hit he takes on Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) in his provocative new movie "Sicko," which made its Washington premiere Wednesday night at the Uptown theater.

Moore said after the premiere that movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, a personal friend and supporter of the Clintons whose company financed the film, "begged" him to remove a scene exposing Hillary Clinton as the second-highest recipient of campaign donations from the health-care industry.

"I said, 'No, Harvey. I gotta do the right thing.' He understood."

Moore said he didn't know whether the Clintons asked Weinstein to make the call.

The film describes her as "sexy" and "sassy" as photos of Clinton over the years are splashed on the screen.

After her health-care overhaul plan failed, Clinton went "silent" -- as Moore put it -- on the need for health-care changes. And then she began raking in the dough -- big time -- from the industry when she started running for office.

Clinton's campaign had no comment on Weinstein's attempt to have the scene removed.

7. That is one that that upset me about the Clintons, they just gave up on a healthcare solution.
I know a lot of it was political, but do we really want a potential President that just gives up on something if they truly believe it is better for America.

9. Oh they say it all the time
It's just that the right thing for a Republican usually ends up being the wrong thing for everybody else.

if you're talking about taking money from Big Insurance, that information can be found on www.openSecrets.org ... there was a DU thread with a link posted a couple of days ago.

8. Well, I don't know if I can blame it on Hillary,
but the inability to sue HMO's back then caused a great hardship for me. Think about a system where doctors knew they didn't have to worry about getting found out through the discovery process nor had to worry about legal challenges to bad medical decisions. It was easy for them to blame the patient when the symptoms were caused by the improper prescription of medication. Imagine being so sick you can't even lift your head up in the morning, knowing that your doctors did this to you and knowing that they are covering for each other and no lawyer is going to waste their time on a case where they're not going to make money.

I would really like to know who was responsibile for giving HMOs the protection from legal liability back in the early 90s. They are criminals, as far as I'm concerned.

12. This may break Clinton's "preordained" candidacy.
Sicko is going to be big. People will see that Clinton turned her back on principles she once claimed to support, and that she's been bought off by Big Pharma and Big Insurance. This might just be the element that makes the other Democratic candidates look good by comparison. Including the one that is getting a lot of mileage about "not running."

13. Hillary Clinton has never been in favor of health care reform. East Asia has always been at war
with Oceania. Black is white. War is peace.

14. Why am I not surprised? ... She's such a tool on so many levels.
If we nominate her, we are destroying one of our best opportunities in decades.
