Michigan State Senator Mark Schauer: Why I'm For Hillary
I've been following the debate on this blog about the Presidential race, and I understand that there are many of you who aren't supporting Hillary Clinton. So I'd like to take some time telling you why I think she's the best choice to be our next President.

We should set a high standard for all of our elected officials, but the role of President is unlike any other. Our Chief Executive and Commander in Chief must not flinch in the face of crisis or adversity or be hampered by self-doubt or inexperience. We set the bar higher for our President, and Senator Clinton clears it. When the tough times come - and they will - she'll make the difficult decisions that must be made. She won't hesitate to tackle a crisis head on because she has the experience, leadership abilities, and steady hand to do it. She has shown time and again that she is a fighter and winner who will stand up to partisan Republican attacks.

She also shares the progressive ideals that I've fought for throughout my public service career. It was Hillary who championed universal health care long before others dared take it on. She spoke out years ago about people working together as a community to improve children's lives - remember "it takes a village?" Having worked in the nonprofit sector before I joined the Legislature, that speaks volumes to me.

Hillary understands what Michigan is going though economically, and she'll work with us to make Michigan jobs and Michigan workers a top priority, not an afterthought. Like Michigan Democrats, she believes in investment and wants to increase funding for research and development in high-tech, high-wage fields like biotechnology and telecom. I've also been impressed with her commitment to the environment, especially the values I share of becoming more energy efficient and strengthening our renewable energy efforts. She has also said firmly that she will bring our troops home safe - and soon.

I didn't come to this decision lightly. I've studied the candidates and issues and followed the debates, just like you have. I've also had the opportunity to meet each of the leading candidates face-to-face. I've looked each of them in the eye and asked them tough questions about their vision, how they'll handle the real problems facing our nation, and how they'll win. After all of this, I feel certain that Hillary Clinton not only would be an exceptional President, but she has the political organization, resources, and strategy necessary to beat the Republicans next year. Bottom line, I trust her to lead our country into the future and reverse the damage done by Bush-Cheney & Company.

This examination has also helped me realize, as many of you've mentioned already, that we have an incredible field of candidates. Each of them are true progressives and truly capable of being our next President. I have made my choice and will be an aggressive, enthusiastic supporter of our nominee. Hopefully, all of you will make that same commitment and continue to discuss and debate, advocate and motivate as you've done so well. I look forward to it. If you decide to join me in supporting Hillary, please let me know. With the Primaries and Caucuses seeming to shift earlier by the day, it's not too early to get involved!

1. Hillary supports outsourcing of American jobs, including good paying, jobs to India, China, etc.
Why would anyone who calls him/herself a progressive or Democrat support her? She supports destroying the Middle Class so she can get corporate contributions to her campaign.

3. One thing it's good for
lots of replies on that thread. Very uncommon there.

No surprise to see a top cog in our state's machine throwing in with Sen. Clinton, seems the way of it in this state. The big cogs make their choice and the little cogs are steam-rolled, again.

Gettin' kinda old to this little cog, frankly.
