3. Whatever. Guess he ain't "black" enough for some folks, too black for others.
Is Hillary white enough for us? How about John McCain? Or are they TOO white? This is bullshit. He does everything he can NOT to make race a big (thus divisive) issue in his campaign, but don't worry, Obama--everyone else will make it an issue FOR you. I am disgusted. And I find this "Lincoln" photo weirdly offensive.

4. right
"Barack Obama is the antithesis of Black Power, a man who promises with every word he speaks, with every nuance of phrase and body language, and through his voting record as a U.S. Senator, that he personifies the definitive end of Black organized struggle in the United States - a unilateral surrender to white racism. This is his appeal to the white masses: that they will no longer be challenged to confront history, or to relinquish privilege in the present."

8. That quote is stunning and outrageous. I'll bet poor Obama just thought
Edited on Sat Jun-16-07 02:31 PM by wienerdoggie
he was a qualified guy running for President. Maybe he doesn't realize how the entire weight, legacy and history of the Civil Rights movement now apparently rests on his shoulders alone--but since he happens to be black, and happens to be running for President, that's a fair burden to place on him, right? Do the people of this website want a racial savior, or a great President for everybody? I guess I can see where their priorities are: advancing "black power" at all costs, even if it means tearing down the most viable, most qualified, black candidate we've ever had, or are likely to have in the near future.

9. I agree
It would be just as disgusting if "people" were stating that Hillary's not women enough. Ridiculous. We should all want what's good for the country, regardless of race/gender.

Also, remember a few months ago, there were a few articles about how Obama isn't "African American" because his ancestors weren't slaves. :wtf:

5. Every organization, no matter purity of purpose, clarity, value or status,
is like a person, in a way: it develops an ego-a will to survive and accumulate security.

Every organization, even though its individual members may be dedicated to the success of that organization, must never succeed.
Any organization that actually succeeds at its purpose and produces its declared desired results, makes itself no longer needed. Which means it needs to disappear-which, from the organization's point of view, is the end of the world.
Therefore, that organization will take on new missions, find new evil to root out, or even refuse to accept the validity of its own conclusions in order to survive.

Any policeman for instance, who has been around for a while, knows this. Maybe not up front, to talk about much but underneath, where it doesn't show a lot, every policeman knows that the total elimination of crime is an absolute no-no.
You don't want to let crime get too out of hand or the powers that be might create another organization to put you out of business, but the crime can't get too little because people will start asking what they need a crime fighter for when there is no crime.

It strikes me that a multi-cultural man such an Obama might just be the ideal person to heal the racial rifts that are still deeply loved and so carefully nurtured.
But, if that multi-cultural man actually had a shot at doing that job, it is in the interests of far too many individuals and organizations that he not succeed.

After all, their own survival is at stake.

12. You make a good point--everyone needs a nemesis or some antagonist to help define themselves--
if we heal the rifts, solve the problems, cure what ails, then what defines the fighters? Soldiers need war, cops need crimes, dentists need cavities, doctors need coronary artery disease. Reminds me of the controversy some years back of deaf kids getting cochlear implants, and some (I believe a minority) in the deaf community advocating AGAINST kids getting the surgery and being able to hear, because they were afraid of the eventual diminishment of their hearing-impaired culture and traditional modes of adaptation (sign language, etc.).

19. Spot on.
What to do? Do we simply try to live in the safest places we can find, arming ourselves against the most violent among us?
Can we continue to hope for a different sort of human to emerge?
Or shall we just muddle on until the human race renders itself extinct and, devoid of all resources, the earth becomes an ever decreasing cradle of life until it finally merges with the sun and history disappears?

I am glad I'm not god.

6. Stunning.
I read the article and based on all the striking inaccuracies, I researched the author and fully expected to unveil some yahoo nobody with a loud mouth and an opinion. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw Glen Ford's resume in terms of his previous job experience. He's been around awhile. That makes it even more sad.

Shame on him for writing a piece so boldly open with holes that only the intellectually laziest "dittohead" type Democrats would fall for it. Shame on him for capitalizing on that market and using his medium and influence to manipulate the same way Rush Limbaugh does to the intellectually lazy "dittohead" type Republicans.

I would call it careless journalism but that doesn't even explain this guy's problems. He has some demons inside that obviously cloud his very ability to reason or even think objectively. This is a hit piece on Obama at best. But I'll refrain from saying what I really think about it.

21. Glen Ford is, for lack of a better word, typical
He's not for sale, he's angry, and he's intellectual. His problems with Obama have more to do with his take that Obama is a child of privilege, and did not grow up in the hard streets of the poorer black neighborhoods, and perhaps has too close of a tie to corporate America. This is all true.

That being said, Obama is what he is. The notion he's "not black enough" has been around for awhile now.

39. No.
With all the rampant anti-Obama threads this week from people who are just trying to stick it to the Obama people, I have no idea who is being real and who isn't when they request information. At this time I have no desire nor any intention of combing through articles to point out the inaccuracies and then finding articles to link to in order to prove my point. I've wasted too much of my personal time in the past doing that for people who don't really have any intention of putting aside their preconceived notions long enough to read what I provide.

If you're seriously interested in knowing, then you can look up the guy's accusations yourself to find out if other sources confirm what he says.

You can believe it all if you want to. You can call me the liar. I sincerely don't care. For the first time, ever, I'm feeling burned out here.

A black man with promises can't hurt.

I suggest that we elect black men and women for 225 years in a row and see what we come up with.

29. "A BLACK MILITANT website!!!!" Ooh booga booga. No wonder so many here don't get it.
Let me just say this, I like Obama. I want to see him succeed. But I, too, am VERY concerned about the points raised in the article. And just recently, Obama had a chance to take a stand and show leadership on the Iraq war funding vote.

I expected Hillary to do just as she did. But I was very disappointed by Obama. He snuck onto the floor, and quietly voted - AFTER THE MEASURE HAD PASSED - WITHOUT EVER MAKING A FLOOR SPEECH.

Every time I listen to Obama, I come away feeling empty in the pocket.

18. Nope he ain't Abe....Abe was a Republican
Abe also lived in a time period when cars had not been invented, flying by airplane would be considered fantasy, and talking about space travel could land you in a lunatic asylum. Abe lived in an era before Jim Crow, before Plessy vs Ferguson and before Brown vs Board of Education.

No, Obama is not Abe Lincoln. Get used to it!

So what is the point? Obama is not black enough to be president? Since when do we measure a candidate's worth by the color of their skin instead of the strength of their character? What is the point? Is Hillary more black? Edwards? Guiliani? Romney? Who?

The Obama camp's condescension toward anyone who dares question HIM is amusing. How many times have we seen Obama fans, in effect, say "shut up! shut up! shut up!" to anyone who dares criticize HIM? These are repuke, O'Reilly tactics. You don't see them from HRC supporters or supporters of anyone other than Obama...

I am not aligned with Kucinich. I'm looking at ALL the candidates and judging them on whether they are likely to put forth a PROGRESSIVE platform.

I mean, these politicians are supposed to be trying to court OUR votes and support. Why so much pussyfooting and asslicking?

I support Edwards (most of the declared candidates, at this point), so I know a bash when I see one. And I had hoped an Edwards/Obama ticket would be "it". I'm just not sure who Obama is and what he stands for, quite frankly.
