Kucinich brings campaign to Wisconsin

JENNY PRICE

Associated Press

MADISON, Wis. - Democratic presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich said Friday that front-runner John Kerry won't get a "free ride" in his quest to wrap up their party's nomination.

Kucinich is stepping up his presence in Wisconsin leading up to Tuesday's primary. He planned campaign stops Saturday in Green Bay, Stevens Point and Milwaukee.

Kucinich said he plans to challenge Kerry in Sunday night's debate in Milwaukee on his positions on trade and the war in Iraq. Kerry supports trade policies that contributed to the loss of tens of thousands of manufacturing jobs in Wisconsin, Kucinich said.

"Sen. Kerry, with all due respect, has been one of the leaders in this trade structure that cost Americans millions of jobs," Kucinich said. "He's going to have to explain why he supports that."

16. Go Dennis !!!

Tear into Kerry's support for job destruction policies and the weakening of our country.

I don't think that Dennis can win. But he can steer Kerry voters over to Edwards who IS NOT a slave to WTO (or WTO being a slave to Kerry (Skull & Bones)).

We need a democrat who knows what it's like to loose their job to globalization. Kerry doensn't know.

3. HOO-AH!
GO DENNIS! This is exactly what I've been wanting him to do, and I cannot wait to see him do it again. People who didn't watch the Children's Welfare forum last year missed him seriously going head to head with Dean and a couple of others. I couldn't even get up to go to the bathroom until it was over!

Borrowing from Sharpton- "Smack them Donkies, Dennis!":spank:

8. No, debates will be on MSNBC nationally on cable
The controversy is that only Milwaukee NBC affiliate will be broadcasting over airwaves, so there are large portions of WI that will not get debate broadcast on NBC affiliate; rather they will get Shrek. So non-cable households outside of Milwaukee area will not see debate. This is pretty consistent with prior debates I think. But folks are trying to force other NBC affiliates to broadcast debate, although I'm not certain how much luck they are having.

and I hope that addie will be posted close to the time.

Dennis has class. I don't say "class act," because it's not an act. Did you see his statement on the Kerry "affair" . He won't attack the candidates personally or lend himself to any interpretation that he will(He wouldn't approve of our called Bush "the chimp,"LOL). Just points out the TRUTH of their policies.

7. As a Kerry supporter
I find that a perfectly reasonable plan. The candidates in this race NEED to challenge each other. Not attack, challenge.

I give DK a lot of credit for his conduct of his campaign to date. I have seen very little in the way of personal attacks, either from or against him.

I certainly wish all of the candidates conducted themselves with more respect toward one another.

I'll not go into all of the accusations back and forth here, because it will take away from this thread, which is about Representative Kucinich. I think we all know what the tensions are. Maybe we can all take a lesson from the way DK's campaign has been run.

11. You are so
cool! Thanks. I think respect is due to all of them. The media treat them like scum, the least they can do is treat each other with respect. The challenge is the fun part. I do not recall Kerry being disrespectful although there are sure a lot of people who would disagree with me. We need to do this thing like adults. So, thanks. Back at you.

14. Agreed. DK has a lot of class.
I'm Kerry/Edwards/ABB, but my respect for DK has really grown.

I bet he would have a fighting chance had 9-11 not occurred. His domestic/social/economic messages are damn strong, but too many Americans are focused on terrorism/national security right now.

Will Pitt has said that his campaign has long-term aspirations beyond the current election, so Dennis is not going away.

Which is a very good thing.

34. Don't worry, it's Edwards' last week to use the Kucinich
However, Kerry has him booked for a full month after.

When the field is finally cleared of upstarts and progressives, they'll take out his batteries and put him in cold storage. Us supporters will collect fat DLC checks and you'll never hear from us again.

It's something how us backers of Dennis "Haha, choogling along in the single digits, he'll never be President" Kucinich have turned out to be THE power brokers this election. Shocked the crap out of me.

Oh my! they're in the largest state in the country campaigning at the same time! IT MUST BE A CONSPIRACY! They're doing a popular late-night TV show watched by millions in the same week! IT MUST BE A CONSPIRACY! They agreed in IOWA (Not Washington) to help each other out because they are good friends, with similar views on many issues (don't pay attention to the fact that Gep and Kerry had a similar deal)! IT MUST BE A CONSPIRACY! Dennis says he won't let Kerry get away without answering some questions and making him be honest (there is a difference between that and attacking that I guess they don't teach on the turnip farm)! IT MUST BE A CONSPIRACY

25. that's good, he's needs to be fully tested before the general
It would be far more damaging he we end up with a paper tiger candidate in the fall. Kerry did well rebounding from his nearly dead campaign and unbeknownst to us he was taking hits and responding poorly through the summer and fall. He rebounded well and found his mojo but I think it's good for Dean, Edwards and Kucinich to fully engage and challenge him. Lest Kerry's campaign falls into a cruise control mode.

28. There is no free ride.
One gets to the nomination by connecting with the people who then speak with their vote. The majority is speaking loud and clear. (God, don't you hate Democracy?)

caveat: I love Dennis Kucinich, I love his message and I agree with him. I hope he sticks around, but I decided for Kerry long before he declared because I believe in him and nothing I have seen anywhere has changed that.
