Senator Craig Thomas (R-WY) is in serious condition
I sincerely wish him a full recovery. Leukemia is an ugly business. If he is able to finish his term, that's fine with me. The people of Wyoming elected him.

For some background, should there need to be a replacement, the current Governor is a Democrat.

Does anyone know the Wyoming law that would address how a replacement, if necessary, would be handled?

here's some info on this story: http://politicalwire.com/archives/2007/06/04/thomas_hospitalized.html

1. I saw Senator Thomas on C-Span not long ago
He seemed like the "old school" kind of Republican (small government, staying out of people's personal lives), the kind I can still respect. I wish him well ...

2. Wyoming
is different from most states.

The Central Committee of the party of the incumbent chooses three names, and the Governor chooses from among them.

So in this case, the Republican Party of Wyoming would choose the three candidates.

3. Here's an excerpt from the WyomingTribune Eagle story
http://www.wyomingnews.com/articles/2007/06/04/breaking_news/01break_06-04-07.txt

If Thomas were to die or resign, Gov. Dave Freudenthal, a Democrat, would appoint a successor from one of three finalists chosen by the state Republican party.

So he would be replaced by another Republican. Seems like a fair plan to me.

7. Lieberman must be in a round the clock prayer vigil for his recovery

8. well
maybe, out of good intentions, but his death wouldn't change the composition of the senate.
