Inouye To Help Lead Clinton Presidential Campaign
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 02:30 PM by Tellurian
KAPOLEI, Hawaii -- Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton has recruited Hawaii Sen. Dan Inouye to head a steering committee of military veterans.

Inouye said that even though he endorses Clinton, he thinks the other Democratic presidential candidates are worthy people. Clinton has a stronger background, he said.

"I have known Hillary from the time she was in the White House. Barack Obama is a good man, but I have known him just two years. From my background and experience with Hillary, I find she would be a fine president," Inouye said.

Inouye said he thinks Clinton is especially strong on health care issues and that she would make a great international leader.

State Senate President Colleen Hanabusa is also a Clinton backer.

Hawaii U.S. Rep. Neil Abercrombie has already thrown his support behind Punahou School graduate Obama and is expected to serve as his honorary campaign chairman in the islands.

Hillary Poll Leads:

June 3, 2007 Washington Post poll without Gore:

Clinton 42%, Obama 27%, Edwards 11%.

With Gore included in poll:

Clinton 35%, Obama 23%, Gore 17%, Edwards 8%.

"Clinton's lead remains steady over her two principal challengers, Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois and former senator John Edwards of North Carolina, and the poll contains troubling news for both.

Obama's support has softened noticeably, highlighting the challenge he faces in turning high interest in his candidacy into votes. Edwards, meanwhile, has lost ground nationally over the past few months."

June 1, 2007 South Carolina

Clinton 29.2%, Obama 20.8%, Edwards 10.7%

2. Figures.
Inouye was one of the Gang of 14, along with such DLC stalwarts as Ben Nelson and Mary Landrieu.
