Gore Does NOT Support "Troops Out Now"
Edited on Thu May-31-07 09:36 PM by StudentsMustUniteNow
On CNN, Larry King said, "So if Al Gore becomes President, the first thing you will do in the White House will be to begin withdrawing troops?"

Al Gore thus responded, "No, Larry. First I would assess the situation."

This doesn't satisfy me at all. Is he back to his 2000 self?

Someone tell me I'm wrong.

By the way, if my quote is 100% correct, forgive me as I'm typing from memory. Was I the only one who noticed this?

4. My you have been a busy little bee
This is what? The third or fourth post disparaging an Al Gore run?
Al Gore is NOT privvy to the intelligence. For him to go around the country spouting he would pull them out NOW is simply foolish.
You prefer stupid cowboys that run their mouth before knowing what is going is on?
Sorry. I prefer reasoned intelligence.

18. Not privvy to the intelligence? You mean there is some secret reason for keeping troops in Iraq?
Stupid cowboys support war and occupation.

to withdraw? Or do you think one day we are just going to start loading up helicopters?:eyes:

29. Plan is fine. But Gore seems to be saying there may be other options
I don't think there is any option but total US military withdrawal.
Total. Starting asap. and it should not take more than a few months to get the troops out, the bases emptied.

33. actually, Gore just seems to be avoiding a trick question
If he answers yes, it would have been reported that he would immediately withdraw all the troops the day after he took office. He's smart enough to see that and to give a careful answer.

35. No, you shouldn't delete it
The time to delete is when you post untrue or misleading information from questionable sources. If this is your opinion, you defend it, but those who disagree will do the same.

Well, to the Sheehan/Kucinich people the only possible option is to miracle all the troops home right this minute, no need to think or plan.

And anyone who disagrees in any way is a Bush-loving war supporter.

It's rather Leninist in a way.

13. Gore Against Funding U.S. Troops Without Timetable for Withdrawal

May 29, 2007 9:39 PM

ABC News' Teddy Davis and A'Melody Lee Report: Former Vice President Al Gore tells ABC News that if he were still in the United States Senate, he would have voted "no" on a war funding bill without a timetable for U.S. troop withdrawal from Iraq which passed both house of Congress last week and was signed into law by President Bush.

I wouldn't expect less, I would expect him to assess the situation, and gain advice on what is best. I would have hoped, he would have added..."to end this" the best way possible for both the Iraqi people, and American People.

20. Sorry he's disappointing you.
But he's right.

The first thing for the next president to do is to really get to the bottom of what the situation is over there, because I don't think we know.

And then, and only then, decide what to do.

Likely to be troop reductions, but there's another option as well, which is a WW2-style national mobilization that will demand the sacrifices that Bush never had the guts to ask for -- including a draft. If I were the next president I would look seriously at that option.

36. please don't back down like that
first, whether you're new here or an old-timer, you have as much right as anyone else to express yourself. shame on those who want to suppress your right to speak and participate. and shame on those who don't show the same respect for new people as everyone else.

raising questions about Al Gore's position, or anyone else's position, on any issue you care about is perfectly appropriate.

you have nothing to apologize for. you've done nothing wrong. in fact, those trying to suppress your voice are the ones who have done something wrong.

we do have problems with trolls on this site but the way to deal with them is to alert the mods and admins privately; it is not to suppress discussion by publically requesting the mods to lock a thread.

you'll find all kinds of people supporting you and attacking you when you enter a public forum like DU; my only advice is to learn what you value and then fight for it. don't let others push you off what you believe is the right path.

i like to see students and "newbies" and young people join the discussion. we need more of them to come here and learn and share. instead, some think it's a good idea to discourage them. how foolish they are ...

34. I trust Gore's assessment over a complex situation like Iraq than I do anyone elses'
Gore does not support the Bush Empire. He would work to bring the troops home safely and as quickly as possible but that would require an indepth assessment of what are the consequences of a quick pullout versus one done in stages. Pullouts are just as dangerous to our troops as invasions. Also Gore would most likely redeploy troops in surrounding countries to handle any fallout from Iraq's civil war.
