King Bush will have 103 I REPEAT 103 Full Time Secret Service Agents when he leaves office
From the WP article posted on Rawstory

http://www.rawstory.com/showoutarticle.php?src=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.washingtonpost.com%2Fwp-dyn%2Fcontent%2Farticle%2F2007%2F05%2F28%2FAR2007052801159_pf.html

And while the 2008 campaign gets going, the service is also gearing up for January 2009, when President Bush is set to leave office; officials are mindful of the 1993 assassination effort by Iraq against his father, former president George H.W. Bush. The service has begun training agents to fill 103 full-time slots as to be part of the current president's retirement detail.

Also it sounds like Rove and friends have their own Secret Service protection. I wonder if they will have them when King Bush leaves office.

103 Agents to protect a retired president Bubble Boy still wants his bubble.. :grr:

He won't find it as easy to cull the crowds of those who would dare speak against him. He might venture out to trusted associates but will not leave often thereby rendering most of them useless.

Then again, we're going to see a lot of pissed off Iraq War Vets who want answers. They've been there and seen the shit that he created to make the Military Industrial Complex/Haliburtons rich. They won't be anywhere as civil as Cindy is/was. He may need them.

Personally I find it a waste of agents and money. That's over 10 Million a year to protect his worthless hide.

It's a lot of people.

They all have good sized security details. I think Clinton's is a bit smaller because he does not accept the offer of daily intelligence briefings that all former presidents are entitled to. So, he's not as up-to-date on hush hush stuff.

Your freedom of movement is more closely monitored and protected, etc.

This is why during WWII Eleanor Roosevelt avoided knowing a lot of the skinny. The minute she learned about The Bomb her security detail was upped.

Same thing here. You lose something for what you gain.

59. I would not want it.
I can understand that Clinton wants to be free from the pressure of knowing all that stuff. It would be depressing to know what was going on and be unable to do anything about it. Ignorance is bliss.

Clinton is a lot freer in terms of what he says and does because he does not listen to all that stuff. Besides, Clinton is probably smart enough to know a lot of what they would say in those reports without listening to the reports. He knows the world, the people involved, the situations. What more does he need to know? After all, he is much more intelligent than anyone in the current government. He would be miserable if he were second-guessing them as they make their many, many mistakes.

42. A lot of people hate Bush.
Fortunately for him, most of the people in America who hate him are pacifists. They are not going to harm him or anyone else. As long as he stays in this country, he will be safe (unless some really angry Iraq vet who he taught to kill gets near him). He might need protection if he tries to go to a Muslim country, but he'll be safe here.

Mostly only the right-wingers are violent. That's why most of the victims of political assassinations in the U.S. are liberals.

Bush has never succeeded at anything except as figurehead for a baseball team. He will probably just fade into oblivion after he leaves office. That will become very evident after his term ends. Bush can't even speak well. He will get speaking engagements in the beginning and then people will see him for what he is -- a total awkward rather stupid, self-centered bore. I hope these new secret service people enjoy riding bicycles because their main task will probably be participating in amateur bicycle races with Bush. Oh -- and clearing brush. Bush will probably end up watching a lot of TV and playing with his dogs. What a bunch of hype.

64. 2 quick thoughts on this
(1) If this is true, it's WAY, WAY more expensive than anyone's haircuts. After John Edwards took a major hit on his choice to have $400 haircuts that HE PAYS FOR HIMSELF, I think this hefty expense should draw LOTS of criticism.

(2) The next President is highly likely to be a Democrat, and I doubt that he or she would stand for this. If a Republican does get elected instead, I think that he'll be equally unable to stomach this. Dubya is already finding his fellow Republicans less and less willing to go along with his nonsense.

67. I ran into Bill Clinton last October, and he didn't have 103 agents
He didn't even have ten of them. This was at a private rally for then-candidate
Jim Webb in Virginia, so they knew he'd be among friends. For Bush, the "among
friends" scenario would play out as: Gonzo, Condi and Cheney, so he'd have a ten
to one ratio of agents to friends, even if they are all there.

And after all, how many Secret Service agents do you need to protect you from
getting spit on, anyway?
