Gore will get in (predicts Howard Fineman). And he may hook-up with Bloomberg.
On Tweety's Sunday show, Fineman says he thinks Gore will get in in September, especially if Hillary is floundering. He thinks Bloomberg is looking to run as an Independent, but the two may join forces (Gore and Bloomberg) in some fashion.

Gore also is reportedly losing weight. For his health, mainly.

28. Hey, I predicted Gore/Bloomberg earlier this week
Edited on Sun May-27-07 06:59 PM by jcrew2001
Is fineman reading my stuff - I said Gore can substituted Bloomberg instead of Lieberman. He'll have a real liberal northeast wealthy jewish man, instead of a fake-democrat.

Bloomberg's billions make him an ideal VP for either GOP or Dem. It will give the ticket the money to buy the election.

Of course, the Dems have other qualified and regionally better candidates - but Bloomberg is a compelling candidate. I personally think he will run for governor in 2010; or Senate if Hillary wins the presidency.

Bloomberg can switch back to Dem party, or run as an independent.

2. He's said this before. Aside from global warming, why would these
two "hook up"? I'd be disappointed in Gore if he did this. There are plenty of excellent Dems to run with, and why would he split the Dem party?

4. No, he said Bloomberg will run as an Independent, Gore as a Democrat.
They wouldn't be running together.

Why would they help each other, if they were going to run AGAINST
each other--it defies logic. Bloomberg would be wasting his money.

8. LOL! I guess so! But if Bloomberg ran, he would get Dem votes,
thus compromising the Dem nominee and ensuring a Repub victory--that's the way I see it, anyway. Unless he has Hagel on his ticket, which might draw conservatives. Weird plan, and damaging to our side. I hope Gore has nothing to do with this.

Edited on Sun May-27-07 09:54 AM by wienerdoggie
and pro-choice. He used to be a Dem. If he thinks he's going to somehow help the Dem party by running as an Indy, I'd rather he didn't. We don't need his help. And that would be a strange reason to run anyway. I think Howie Fineman is smoking crack. He's the only one who keeps coming up with this bullshit--I haven't heard it from anyone else.

15. So Bloomberg is going to finance a Gore run? That would make
some sense, but then why would he bother to run? Why doesn't he just finance the candidates that he wants to win, and stay out of it himself? Did Howie say how he knew this, or what communication they've had?

16. He did cite people close to the "Gore camp" and said that Gore's about 50/50
and that the framework is set up for a September entrance, possibly.

23. Just remember that Fineman's nick name should be "slitherman"
because he's a gossip and always is using info from one side or the other to his own advantage. He's not a good predictor...more a guy who "fingers the wind" and pronounces. Always "slithering" though.

25. Makes sense to me for Gore to help Bloomberg
get in as an Independent and siphon off votes from the Republican nominee.... They are not going to run together, just help each other, meaning Gore will do whatever he can to diminish Hillary support in New York. Pretty practical thing to do, right?

I would have thought that would have been a life lesson someone as brillant as Gore would have learned from. I hope Fineman is wrong about the Bloomberg part of this.

29. Loserman at that time WAS a Dem. It was before he broke from Dem Party...
He was a moderate, but there wasn't the indication that he was as close to being a Republican as is now apparent.

Gore will not break with the party leaders. Gore is a Dem.

Regardless of what people think of Loserman as a Democrat then, he still was a member of the party. He was a totally acceptable V.P., from that viewpoint. The biggest issue at that time, as I recall, was that he was jewish. There had never been a Jewish Prez or V.P., if I recall correctly.

30. It is in the context of the Iraq War that Lieberman has shown his true stripes.
Although he was more moderate than Gore, he didn't really start kissing Republican butt until the war.

Personally, I would rather have Gore stay out of the race than choose Bloomberg as a running mate.

How would Bloomberg play in the provinces? Heavy New Yorkers face negative assumptions in my home area and it is because of their behavior when they show up.

Repub (Hagel) and Indie (Himself!) to run in '08, so that no matter what, he influences the outcome of the election. I guess having billions can do that for you--megalomaniac!

That would pay for the whole political spectrum. Either way, he is going to be a force, as a candidate or a backer.

27. Ooops, forgot campaign finance laws! He can't pay for someone else's campaign,
can he? More than $2000 worth, anyway. He has to RUN with that person, so if it won't be Gore, then probably Hagel or someone else.

31. Fineman is nuts
I can see Gore joining forces with Bloomberg on issues of climate change...

But beyond that...? Gore isn't going to change parties or leave the party. I'm sure he's not thrilled about Hillary, but he's not going to make an indy run and won't back an indy candidate. Bloomberg won't go anywhere as an indy either. He'll end up drawing moderate Dem voters, thus hurting the Dem nominee. The strong 30+% republican base still drinks the kool aid pretty heavily...and I think the "moderate" republicans will fall for a "moderate" McCain, Giulliani, Romney, or Thompson...

Bloomberg's best bet to influence the election is backing the Dem nominee (he's closer to most Dems politically anyways). BTW, I'm curious - what is his relationship with Giulliani like? I doubt they're that close...
