A New Low
Bush Job Approval Dogged By WMD Questions, Economy and John Kerry

Analysis By Gary Langer
ABCNEWS.com

Feb. 12— President Bush is at a low point in public approval, his popularity depressed by questions about the Iraq war, continued economic frustration and public interest in his leading Democratic rival, an ABCNEWS/Washington Post poll finds.

Bush's overall job approval rating has fallen to 50 percent, a career low. His rating for honesty and trustworthiness is likewise at a new low.

For the first time, fewer than half of Americans now say the war with Iraq was worth fighting. Fifty-seven percent disapprove of Bush's performance in terms of job creation. And John Kerry leads him in a head-to-head match-up, 51 percent to 43 percent, although the Massachusetts senator's support is noticeably softer.

Context is critical: These results come at the zenith of the Democratic primary season, after a period of intense and positive coverage of Kerry; and they follow a slump for Bush extending from his poorly reviewed State of the Union address through his admission that Iraq might not have had weapons of mass destruction after all.

6. Yes, Kerry is still beating Bush in the polls,
that's why they launched the Drudge rumor attack.

2. Me too ...
It's kinda odd ... during every election in Kentucky, we are fed results of surveys every week for months before an election ... of course repugs were always leading.

Now .. Kentucky is having a special election next week and in the 2 months of dozens of campaign commericals every frigging 5 minute commerical cycle, there has been exactly ONE survey done. Democrat Ben Chandler had a 10 point lead. That survey was done last month. Since then nada, zippo.

One good thing, Chandler will be in my hometown for the election results. I plan on going wearing a sweatshirt that I'll create this weekend. Remember that picture on Salon of * in his flight uniform as a statue being pulled down in front of the White house? I've made an 8.5x11.5 image of that with the logo "Regime Change Begins At Home. Show Bush The Door in 2004" I'll print that on a Tee-shirt transparency and put in on a sweatshirt.

I'll also wear my Vietnam medal for the first time since I was discharged. I agree with Kerry. It's time to fight and take back America!

3. Sure the polls are out there...
But I think they are finished broadcasting them 24/7 on cable (Clark's gone).

8. That's what I'm trying to say. Every 10 mins it was Kerry can beat GWB
I haven't heard the numbers blasted all over the airways every 5 mins. What makes it even more funny is the fact they have a big story with Kerry and his possible horizontal boggie fest and GWB and his AWOL.
 you'd think they'd want to compare them now especially.

5. Yeah, a Kentucky woman here...
I thought it was great that the "liberal" CJ was careful to point out that Chandler's 10 point lead did not give him a majority.
