How long does Al Gore have to make up his mind?
I thought I'd take a short break from venting to ask a question that's been on my mind for a while.

I'm assuming Al Gore hasn't decided whether to run for president yet. My question is, How much more time does he have before it's too late for him to be a competitive candidate?

It stinks how much electoral campaigns are driven by money and fundraising, but that sure won't change in the current political climate. And the other campaigns now have a big head start. On the other hand, rumors are that some people are holding onto their cash just in case Gore jumps in.

I've heard people suggest September as an effective deadline, that any later would leave too little time to raise enough money. I certainly don't see how anyone could wait until a lot later than that. But I wanted to hear what people thought.

1. He's saying that he won't rule out a run, but that he's "not feeling it" now--
that was on an earlier thread today. I don't think he's going to.

2. He can wait clear until November and still make every deadline.

3. He can make the filing deadlines for ALL of the primaries? What will waiting
until November do to his chances? I know that the amount of press he would receive about his announcement would far eclipse anything the other candidates can do with 30-second spots -- still, I am anxious. What do you think would be the BEST month? I am leaning toward October or maybe as early as September.

:hi:

5. I was thinking the week before Christmas,
it would be an excellent stocking stuffer for the nation, even those that don't celebrate Christmas and if he decides not to run then, that leaves 30+ shopping days until the first primary.

*Disclaimer, I'm usually shopping on Christmas Eve.

6. I guess we have to leave it up to Al and Tipper.
I'm OK with that. No matter what he decides, he's an authentic American hero and, on top of that, he is truly a great guy. :hi:

4. I think part of it is that he's not even going to need that much money
just to buy loads of bullshit ads.

If he does it, he'll do it his way.

And he'll have plenty of money, I'm pretty danged sure.

I'm waiting myself to see where i'll put that dough. If not Gore, I'm thinking probably Edwards. (as of today).

7. My guess is that he would need
three or four month before the primary elections start. That would mean no later than September or October. I doubt that fund raising will be an issue.
