citizens of the US only. Recently, on one of the MSNBC talking head shows, I saw a person asserting that the citizenship of candidates mattered. This person then drove the discussion to question whether hyphenated Americans should drop their hyphenations, i.e., should African-, Irish-, Italian- and other-Americans drop their indications of place of origin. I felt this was a misdirection on his part. I assert that it is more problematic for elected and other senior officials to actually be citizens of other countries, as in those who are dual citizens. With a few exceptions (such as, maybe, citizenship conferred by birth) this should be prevented. Those exceptions could be monitored or otherwise tracked.
