Dems: Fight over Iraq war has just begun

By ANNE FLAHERTY, Associated Press Writer
58 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - Democrats may have lost the first round with
President Bush on ending the war in Iraq since taking over
Congress in January, but they say their fight has just begun.

In the months ahead, lawmakers will vote repeatedly on whether
U.S. troops should stay and whether Bush has the authority to
continue the war. The Democratic strategy is intended to ratchet
up pressure on the president, as well as on moderate Republicans
who have grown tired of defending Bush administration policy in
a deeply unpopular war.

"I feel a direction change in the air," said Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa.,
chairman of the House panel that oversees military funding.

Democrats looked to the upcoming votes after losing a bruising
battle with Bush on an emergency war spending bill. Lacking
the two-thirds majority needed to overcome another presidential
veto, Democrats dropped from the legislation a provision ordering
troops home from Iraq beginning this fall.

1. Do these people take us all for idiots? Do they think we don't understand
how they sold us out? Do they really believe that we will accept the 'lacking the two-thirds majority' bullshit?

What a bunch of arrogant opportunistic money grubbing lying parasites.

3. What a line a BS
Sorry Dem leadership....you got skunked by the President with the worst approval ratings in history, and lost respect from the country at the same time. Momentous times require momentous action, and you failed miserably.

5. Yes, I suppose they're just keeping their powder dry again......
:eyes: That old "powder dry" chestnut was long ago proven to be nothing but bullshit. Yeah, we believe you Congressional Democrats. Really, we do. You kept your powder dry and WE KNOW you'll fight tooth and claw for the end of this insane war the NEXT time. :sarcasm:

Wimps. Gutless tools.

6. Call me delusional, but why aren't you all suggesting a better strategy? Do you
Edited on Fri May-25-07 05:37 AM by poverlay
all expect them to walk into a hail of bullets to no purpose? What sort of idiot general do you take Pelosi for? What kind of miracle did you expect a non-veto proof majority to pull off in six months? I think they've done a halfway decent job. Hearings, minimum wage, Katrina and medical insurance aid, all out of a battle that they KNEW they weren't going to win in the first place. I call that strategy.

I'm sorry, but I honestly don't understand what you all expect the Dems to do.
I'm not going to call my Congress critters and tell them thanks for committing political suicide to absolutely no benefit.

Anyone else here want to win?
If this is just a disappointment thread, I'll agree that the whole thing sucks and move on...

On edit:
I must get some sleep. If you reply, please allow me to respond tomorrow. ~ Thanks

8. It's over
Your baby doesn't love you any more.
Golden days, before they end,
Whisper secrets to the wind.
Your baby won't be near you any more.
Tender nights, before they fly,
Send falling stars that seem to cry.
Your baby doesn't want you any more.
It's over.
It breaks your heart in two,
To know she's been untrue.
But oh, what will you do,
When she says to you,
"There's someone new.
We're through.
We're through."
It's over, it's over, it's over.
All the rainbows in the sky
Start to weep and say good-bye.
You won't be seeing rainbows any more.
Setting suns, before they fall,
Echo to you, "That's all, that's all."
But you'll see lonely sunsets, after all.
It's over, it's over, it's over....
It's over.
