Dems: No-Confidence Vote in June
By Paul Kiel - May 24, 2007, 1:52 PM

In a press conference today, Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) said that Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) had agreed to bring the no-confidence resolution concerning Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to the Senate floor after the immigration bill -- meaning probably the second week of June. The Senate has a one week recess next week.

The resolution itself is a brief one, simply expressing no confidence in Gonzales. "Resolved by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled: It is the sense of the Senate that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales no longer holds the confidence of the Senate and the American people."

6. No, that is not allowed, and where is your "'patriotism" to the party?
E-Gads, these threads lately...remind me of the arguments DU used to have regarding "electability" during the '04 primaries.
Nevermind what the party is supposed to stand for, this is politics. Retreat from each battle, sooner or later you'll somehow win the war. :eyes:

12. I dunno. From what I've been reading around DU lately you must put
the party first, before country, before troops, before the poor, before the constitution. Somehow, all those things will automatically be lost if the party does not come first. The party is the only one who truely cares about those things.

8. The Dems must be thinking they'll put it off

for another two weeks and hoping that Gonzo will resign in the meantime, or maybe he'll just issue a blanket apology which they can accept so that they don't have to go through with this - because even taking a completely meaningless step like declaring their lack of confidence in this criminal is something they obviously feel really, really squeamish about - or they'd have done it already.

10. I think our leadership should spend less time

on things that don't matter, and more time on things
that do matter.

hearing this on the heels of the cave in on the war
funding is salt in the wounds.

11. The Democratic leadership in its current state is incapable of forceful confrontation.
Passive aggressive is about the best they can muster. The only way to change that is to make it more uncomfortable for them to disregard the will of the people then to disregard the will of the President and his political machine. This will be neither easy nor comfortable for anyone involved, unfortunately.

14. Bush will laugh his ass off at that ...
while the Senate whines we have no confidence in the Justice Department, who retains the power to misuse. They should pass this instead. ... It is the sense of the American electorate that the Senate and House democrats no loner holds the confidence of the American people.
