Would YOU vote for Bloomberg?
According to the Freepers, he will get Dem and Indy votes as a Third Party and help to elect a Republican. Are they NUTS? Hell, I was an Independent for 30 years. Bloomberg? Are they joking? Never mind I would not vote for him knowing it really would be vote for a Republican, but I also think the man is a nut case. I live in a NYC suburb. All I ever hear about him is his crack down on smoking and now his trans fat attacks. Like we don't have more important issues in this world today??????

He is a nut as far as I am concerned. Vote for him for President? Surely you jest.

2. He ran as a Rep. to get the nomination. He's a Bostonian Red Sox fan who is mayor of NYC...
yes, I'd consider voting for him.

My heart still belongs to Clark, Richardson and Dodd, but I'd consider Bloomberg.

3. No I wouldn't.....
I live in the other end of the state and I'm glad he's in NYC and not here. I too think he's somewhat nutty.

4. I wouldn't, but would we get kicked off if we said yes? In other words,
who's gonna be honest about voting Republican or Indy?

7. I don't think you'd get kicked off necessarily for doing it once..
but the comment would be pulled and you'd probably be given a warning.

9. Thanks! Just curious--noticed there were some who said they'd
vote for Ron Paul in other threads, and nothing happened, so I was curious as to whether anyone would be honest here. I don't know why a Dem would vote for him, when we have actual Dems running--he might be a great manager or exec, but I don't think he has the personality, charisma, or looks to pull off a prez run by himself.

12. Besides which, he's also completely batshit insane.
Paul may be right on the war and some civil libertarian issues, but the rest of his libertarian stance — the wide open free market capitalism that would further impoverish our middle and lower classes, for example — is downright doddy.

As for the people who supported him, it's quite possible that moderators never even saw the comments. If no one alerts on a comment, it can easily pass under the radar.

13. I think the comment would be allowed to stand and that the poster would be heckled but
that might be the extent of it. I mean I have seen people say they would vote for Ron Paul and I haven't seen their posts removed yet.

5. Well, no, but I don't believe DU is a good barometer of Dem and Indy voters
I mean, let's face it — we tend to skew just a teensy bit to the left around here. OK, maybe more than a teensy bit. Perhaps a skosh.

But, regardless of that, I think the freepers are mistaken if they think Bloomberg is the big crossover guy. McCain can maybe rely on some indy votes (a lot of indys are still convinced that McCain's a "maverick"), and maybe Giuliani for the moderate social issues that will doom him in the primary anyway. But Bloomberg? Nah.

As for Dem votes, it's like Harry Truman said, "Given the choice between a Republican and someone who acts like a Republican, people will vote for the real Republican all the time."

The reverse is also true. Given the choice between a Democrat and someone who acts like a Democrat, people will vote for the real Democrat all the time. Getting crossover Dem votes because you're a Republican who acts like a Democrat is a losing battle.

Bloomberg won an election running as a Republican in heavily Democratic New York City.

It is not at all clear how much support Bloomberg would get or where it would come from. But it he's considering running as an independent, his internal polls must show something. Bloomberg is a wild card, and like Perot, could have an unpredictable effect on the election. I would rather he not run.

Part of Bloomberg's support would be drawn from Democrats. Hr would be infinitely preferable to any of the candidates running as Republicans. Whether he would be preferable to any of the Democrats is another matter.

And I had no idea he was the force behind the trans-fat ban. I really like that law. It is a serious public health issue.

21. No...and the freeptards are dead wrong.
Bloomberg will split their crappy little party just like TR did in 1912. They'll finish third in 2008, just like they did in 1912 under that loser Taft.

24. We are not representative of average voters.--most of us
will vote for the Democratic Party in the end.

Bloomberg just may surprise a lot of people. Since Bloomberg was
a true Democrat until the day he decided to run as Mayor Of NYC
he will know how to talk a language that has broad appeal.

I too believe that if he runs he will attract more Democrats.
