Candidates offer options to deal with higher gas prices
http://www.globegazette.com/articles/2007/05/17/state/doc464bdc88bbd07298147859.txt

Sen. Barack Obama, an Illinois Democrat, said he doesn’t believe short-term solutions exist to high gas prices.

“Ultimately, we’ve got to reduce our consumption,” Obama said in a recent interview. “That’s something we have control over.”

Some of the longer-term solutions he’s proposing include raising fuel economy standards for vehicles by 4 percent each year and expanding tax credits to consumers who buy hybrid vehicles. Like other candidates, Obama also wants to see a greater emphasis on renewable fuels, including ethanol and biodiesel.

Obama said the country has made progress in becoming more efficient in its energy use, but not much progress has been made in the area of transportation.

“We basically for two decades, we just stopped even trying. And had we stayed on the trajectory we started in the ’70s after the oil shock, we’d be in much better shape,” Obama said.

1. It's easy for any candidate to come up with what 'we' should do
while their all riding around on our dime. How about lowering the flucking price and quit licking the oil companies boots? That seems like a simple solution to me.

2. reduce consumption?
surely not. Why does Barak Obama hate successful people that drive an SUV :sarcasm: Of course that needs to be the centerpiece of any energy policy. Now I just wish he would say that louder so people can hear him.

3. Brilliant ...
For the past several years I have resorted to cutting and splitting wood to keep from freezing. Now if I could only trade in my car for a horse I could get by just like people did in George Washingtons time.
Now thats progress.

4. a simple solution

until we find more alternative methods for energy;and we need more than one. we nationalize the oil industry. at the least put cost controls into effect.
when exxon-mobile and other oil companies are recording record profits. the nation is at war so all we need is a president that has the will.
