Hershey To U.S. Workers: Kiss Off - 05/15/07

Workers for iconic U.S. candy maker Hershey can kiss nearly 1,500 jobs goodbye. Jesse Russell reports.

Employees of the company born in Hershey, Pennsylvania are beginning to see the repercussions of planned job cuts announced a day after Valentines Day. The company is closing its last Canadian factory, laying off 580 workers, and is set to shutter additional plants in Oakdale California, Naugatuck, Connecticut, and Reading, Pennsylvania. Many jobs will be shifted to Mexico where a new plant is being built. The company also has plans to shift product production to China and India.

3. May they find Mexican, Chinese, and Indian customers.
I won't buy Hershey's. I wrote to them weeks ago. They didn't even respond.

4. I wrote 'em too. Not a word in return. They don't need my money
apparently. Just as well.

5. I'll never buy Hershey's again
I live near the Canadian plant that they're closing down.

Those are my neighbors being thrown out of work.

6. Oakdale is only a few miles from where I live
This is going to devastate Oakdale, CA. They are the main source of work in the area besides farming. Greedy Bastards. I am officially boycotting Hershey.

7. Ghiradelli is much better chocolate and is
made here in the U.S., too. I won't have any trouble giving up Hershey's kisses, especially since I discovered the chocolate drops made by Ghiradelli.

THis move makes me very angry. How will this effect the town of Hershey, Pennsylvania?
