Bush to Release Anti-Kerry Ad Mimicking Dean’s "Special Interests" Charge
MSNBC just reported last hour that Bush is going to Release Anti-Kerry Ad Mimicking Dean’s Attacks on Kerry for "Special Interest" fundraising.

I guess the whole "spedial interest" story was a Rove plant after all,
Then we Dems predictably ran with it.

Now that WE have made the charge credible in the media (even though it seems to have been refuted by Public Citizen) the Repubs are releasing their attack Ad campaign basically paraphrasing Dean.

I predict that certain endorsers are going to be Publicly withdrawing
in protest over the nastiness of the Attacks.

There is absolutely no dignity and pride left. Sadly, the whole movement is ending in a pile of mud and we have only ourselves to blame.

1. Yeah
The Republicans were sitting around wondering "How on earth are we going to deal with John Kerry?" If you think that they needed help dealing with John Kerry then I don't know what to tell you.
Never mind that he has a VOTE on a HUGE issue that (regardless of how complicated or nuanced the situation is) can be EASILY spun to make him look like a huge hypocrite.

is What credability BUshco has critisizing Kerry regarding special intrest money considering their the largest Special Intrest money whores in the country.

The ad is basically saying, John Kerry is as bad as we are so vote for us. It's pathetic.

4. Every election that has more candidate can do this
Part of the primary is convincing the electorate that "A" is the one to pick over "B". Obviously, it's easy enough for the opposing party to pick up those comments and say, "See, you should vote for us, even "A" said this about "B".

So far the only one who's comments are least likely to get used that way are Edwards, but we're a long way from November.

Come on! Howard was under fire for his sealed records long before the scream. The scream was, I'll admit, the nail in the coffin (unjustly imho). All the scream did was make everyone forget about the sealed records.

But I didn't see anywhere in the Bush ad where the charges leveled at Kerry relied on (or even mentioned) Dean or democrats. It seems to me that the Bushies are quite prepared to make Kerry's special interest ties an issue which stands on its own merit.

48. It Is Precisely The Same Attack, Sir
It uses the same artfully constructed figure, sourced to the same newspaper article, and quite likely was put together after conclusion from the reaction of the followers of Gov. Dean that it might be a good line for depressing Democratic turn-out.

The statement is, in fact, a ludicrous one, as monies from individuals employed as lobbyists is a tiny fraction of the special interest money sluiced into the Capitol. The truth is that in any given year, the current administration has collected more special interest money than Sen. Kerry has in his entire career.

It is an artful distortion, nothing more. Nothing more than that could be expected from a Republican campaign, of course, but was a disappointment to see such swill emanating from a Democratic candidate against another Democratic candidate, and an even greater disappointment to see persons on this forum cling to it, and support it, when all that such actions do is peovide aid and comfort to the criminals of the '00 Coup.

Except, of course, when I actually post data that shows it to be true... then I don't get any response at all.

Tell you what, you can post the Public Interest article, and I'll go track down some data from Open Secrets, the Center for Public Integrity, etc. to see just how Kerry has been using the soft money from his PAC "Citizen Soldier Fund." Then we can come back and see how Kerry shapes up... not in relation to Bush who sets the bar WAY too low, but in relation to the other candidates. Deal?

It has not been refuted by Public Citizen
The stats cut both ways.

Yes, he didn't take much PAC money.

Yes, he got a lot of money from specific special interests, and based on teh time I spent around such things, I would suspect much of it was probably bundled, because that's how things go.

I am sick of every criticism of Kerry being charged as a Republican plant. I notice not a lot of threads are getting locked on this issue.

So, basically, Kerry supporters are free to accuse anyone who questions Kerry's stature to be the nominee can be called a Republican or a tool of the Republicans.

Bush is going to do everything in his power to destroy our nominee. If you think they had to wait for Howard Dean to come up with some nefarious idea and then steal it, you don't know very much about Republicans.

Kerry has liabilities. Get over it. If he is our nominee, we have to live with that.

I am also not convinced that Kerry will have any postitive affect in Washington, beyond the negative of No More Bush, no GOP appointments to the Supremes, etc.

We'll see some executive orders on the environment reversed, and some of the tax cuts repealed.

But business will largely continue as usual.

I think that will be a great disappointment to many of us, but should not come as a surprise, either.

Hell, if Howard Dean was our Goldwater, then we are a generation away from the promised land.

Repubs were using only "individual donations" as the target of their
analysis (more details are provided for these) rather that all
donations which would include soft money and PAC donations which Repubs wallow in but Kerry and some other Dems do not accept.

The truth is the opposite of what the stories were saying, and it
is a shame for any of us, regardless of which candidate we support, to keep spreading deceptive information. I wouldn't want them to
do this to Dean after 20 years of fund-raising. It is just
unethical.
