Does the attack on Mrs. Kerry's husband open the door for her to run ads?
I know she is limited in how much money she can give to any candidates election. But isn't this kind of an attack against her and her family? And if it is can she now run her own ads saying what a great guy her husband really is now that someone in her family has been attacked in this way? Full page articles in the NYT and all? I don't know for sure but I am just curious if this may be the case? I know she can't attack Bush but is she allowed to spend money to defend her families honor in a case such as this? Anyone know how this stuff works?

1. I hope so!
She said she would only open up the warchest if the Pubbies started spreading lies about John.

Wouldn't it be great if Drudge only succeeded in doing that?

3. There seemed to be some indication of that
Even before the allegations came out, she was quoted as saying she would use her money to defend attacks against her family.

Of course, this is only if the allegations turn out to be untrue. If they are true and supportable, Kerry may be in more trouble from her than he is from Drudge.

4. Teresa Kerry could become a negative...
First of all, this is not a Kerry-bashing post. While I'm still not thrilled with John, I admire Mrs Kerry for all she's done with her foundation's assets. A true philanthropist.

I do have a gnawing wondering as to how "Middle America" is going to react to a foreign-born potential first lady. While many of us here at DU are pretty open-minded and cosmopolitan, a LOT of Americans are not. The first time they hear her accent, I can see many people thinking "She's a foreigner!" Many will be more comfortable with Pickles Bush and her doped-up smile. Especially after 9/11 and all the anti-European crap before the War, I'm just wondering how a foreign-born first lady will play in Hooterville and Grovers Corners.

Again, I am not attacking the Kerry's on this. I'm just curious to know if anyone else thinks I have a point here?

5. As a bona fide resident of Hooterville, Grovers Corners,
i.e., a small farming community in Illinois, and a member of our county Democrats, I don't give a hoot.

I think so many people are sick of shrub that they will not care either, here or anywhere else.

I seriously have not heard anything like that about Theresa around here!

I am sure we will hear the attacks and gossip soon enough.

When Nixon resigned, I lived in a very repuke county. There were some repukes who did not like Betty Ford, at that time. Actually, I think she did alot of good, publicizing her breast cancer, and founding the Betty Ford Clinic. The clinic idea does more good than ten thousand battles in the war on drugs.

I don't think first lady bashing did not become a serious sport until Hillary took office. We live in different times, I guess. I think Theresa is a pretty tough lady. She can take care of herself, and if she is first lady, we can help her.

6. I remember her saying something like that...
... that if the GOP attacks reached Kerry's family, she would use the Heinz fortune against them in the general election. I hope she will; she has access to resources to match even the GOP.

8. Methinks Theresa Kerry is working on something right now. . .
I believe that more than once she has indicated that if the Repukes got personal with John, she'd strike back, using her own funds.

9. She said the tripwire would be 'Character assassination'
which this obviously is, but I don't think a mere Drudge rumor will be enough.

10. Imagine if Hillary had the bucks back then
oh well, I guess being Senator is good enough consolation.
