Romney cites Scripture on gay marriage

By GLEN JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer
2 hours, 15 minutes ago

BOSTON - Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney is defending
his opposition to gay marriage by citing the Scriptures.

The former Massachusetts governor, who in his 1994 Senate bid pledged
to be a more effective champion for gay causes than his Democratic
rival, discussed gay marriage in an interview set to air Sunday on CBS'
"60 Minutes."

"This isn't just some temporary convenience here on Earth, but we're
people that are designed to live together as male and female and we're
gonna have families," he tells interviewer Mike Wallace, according to
an excerpt CBS released Friday. "And that, there's a great line in the
Bible that children are an inheritance of the Lord and happy is he who
has or hath his quiver full of them."

Romney, seeking to become the first Mormon president, also tries to
allay any concerns about his religion.

The article continues by describing Romney's new revelations
(and changed story) about going on a religious mission and
getting a draft deferment during the Vietnam war.

1. What an idiot. He couldn't stop it in Massachusetts, yet he's using his "failure" as a selling
point? I mean, really--he had a perfect opportunity here, but he couldn't sell one state out of fifty, when that one state was ALL he had on his plate!

Hell, by that Mittsy-Shittsy logic, if he does what he did in Massachusetts, why, all fifty states will have equal marriage rights in no time!

2. Again I tell you, it is easier...
...for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. - Matthew 19:24.

Romney is incredibly dangerous - as evil as Bush, and 40x smarter - Manny Goldstein 5/10/07

5. Not the New Testament

Jesus had nothing to say on the subject of homosexuality. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

If it was the overwhelming issue some of his followers have made of it, don't you think the head honcho would have said something about it? But these types seem far more interested in what other people are doing with their genitals than in practicing the beatitudes themselves. It's more than a little creepy, IMHO.

7. And since Jesus was talking a lot about a new covenent with the lord...
he was referring, at least in my humble opinion, to getting rid of all the laws that governed the worship of god and just establish a simple relationship with the lord...

4. "Quiver full of them?" My loins quiver in anticipation, saith the Mormon Pontiff
Bin Laden quotes his holy books, the Pope quotes his, the Ayatollah Khameini quotes his, the American TV evangelists quote theirs, so on and so forth.

I can't recall of a single instance in human history where things were made better by following the dictates in any holy book from any religion, yet I can think of many instances in which great evil was done by people waiving their holy books.

6. Romney employs the old "is/ought" argument.
Because only males and females can procreate, that is the way it ought to be. And because children make people happy, marriages ought to produce children. Nevermind that there are many marriages that can't possibly produce children - post menopausal marriages for one.

8. Just flipping thru the New Testement on my desk, I found two instances where
Christ specifically stated that there were none who would not be blessed for forsaking their families and friends and even wives and follow Him. And another where the Mormon doctrine of sexaual continuation in their own Heaven is refuted and it clearly says that in John that the blessed dead are no more of the earth but spirits and given not to eat or the flesh. . .

He is citing Psalm 127 with the "children like a quiver full of sharp arrows".

9. When is someone going to cite the US constitution?
That is, after all, the law of the land, isn't it?
