Schwarzenegger Endorses Obama's Global Warming Plan
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's office sent out a press release today touting a global warming plan by U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, a Democrat. The presidential candidate from Illinois has introduce a national carbon-reduction initiative based on Schwarzenegger's own efforts in California unveiled in January.

Schwarzenegger has said he's inclined to endorse a Republican for president, but may not make any decision in the primary. The GOP governor already has held a high-profile meeting with U.S. Sen. John McCain, also about global warming standards, and with former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. Former Gov. Mitt Romney received a private meeting last week. Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear said the governor and Obama have never talked.

Schwarzenegger's log-rolling with candidate Obama came after the senator's campaign issued a press release that said: "I've introduced a proposal known as a National Low-Carbon Fuel Standard, based on the one introduced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in California just a few months ago. Like raising our fuel-efficiency standards, this approach simultaneously reduces our dependence on oil and reduces greenhouse gas emissions."

1. I think Ahnuld is considering a Senate run.
He's been banging the environmentalist drum for a few months and now he attempts to attach himself to a rock star in the Democratic party.

6. What's his take on environmental issues in general?
Most of the environment-related news I catch out of California around here tends to have conservatives and Randroids bursting into flames in fits of apopletic rage, which can't be all bad..

4. My thoughts exactly. Obama definitely is playing well with independents and moderate GOPers.
If only Obama/Edwards or vice versa was the ticket, we'd win by a huge margin.

3. Very Interesting!
I see Ahhnold as a token Republican- this wouldn't be considered a defection, more as Obama "wrangling" than anything else.

9. Wish I could find my Arnold sound bite.
He's telling a group of republican consultants about global warming " you'll be like da polah beah , ot deah on an ice floe" if you don't get on board"

Also, Hill's speech at the CA convention was solid in this area. I found a snippet of it which she was using in Iowa:

Arnold is succumbing to the wave, he's getting off the neocon bandwagon. Not that it helps us with the power companies today.

12. More on the groppensteroidenfuhrer's "health care" plan
Romny`s Massachusetts Health Care Plan and Arnold`s California plan have something in common.

In both plans everyone is mandated by law to have health insurance – or be penalized. The penalty - you lose your individual state income tax exemption.

Arnold`s has a government funded subsidy to low-income individuals to assist with the purchase of private health insurance – up to 250% of poverty. (A single individual earning $27,000 is above 250% of poverty and would have to pay $3,200 a year in coverage.)

Rommy`s plan has a sliding-scale subsidy to individuals for the purchase of private insurance with incomes up to 300% of federal poverty level (or $49,800 for a family of three.) Individuals with a income less than 100% of poverty ($9,800 for a individual) will not be required to pay any premiums to private insurance. The subsidy is a voucher

And there is no deductible.

Both plans would make criminals of people who do not purchase the private insurance, and there is a built in penalty easily applied by the state.

But what both plans really have in common is this:

THEY CREATE A NEW MARKET FOR THE PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANIES TO MAKE A PROFIT OFF OF – AND THE TAX PAYER GETS TO PAY FOR IT.

WE PAY – THEY PROFIT.
