Hold on a minute: a little perspective (Kerry flap)
My perusal of U.S. news reports overnight had virtually nothing about the Kerry affair story. Instead, the broadcast I saw were hammering away at AWOL. There was an excellent report about this on CBS overnight. It looks like the mainstream press (I exclude Drudge from that characterization) are so far taking a pretty mature approach to the story.

Could they actually be fact-checking now? We shall see.

This only blows-up on Kerry if it is true and it is ugly.

However this got out, I am thankful it did before the March 2 primary. If the allegations are true, the Democrats could not afford to have damaged goods this fall.

If it's untrue, it's a great time to get the rumors and innuendos out of the way...

If it is true, Democrats have enough time to analyze what it means and make the right choice.

Kerry supporters= QUIT BEING SO THIN SKINNED. It's a good thing your candidate answers these questions now, not in late October.

Everyone else= Let's wait for the facts, the sky hasn't fallen yet...

1. Mainstrean media could not substantiate the story
so they aren't reporting it. The story got out through Drudge.

2. Precisely... if they are just rumors, it is great to get this over now
rather than late in the game.

3. Media is surreal...its the only subject on radio, but not on TV or papers
It was even mentioned by the most popular local morning drive time show in my little bitty state. I was simply amazed to hear them!

5. I think it is out now for two reasons.
First, AWOL is rocking shrub's world pretty badly. Even the WH press corps is standing up to him, for a change.

Secondly, they are afraid of him. They may not have expected Kerry to have such a good showing so early, or to be the nominee at all. They probably thought they had to run against Dean. They may have been afraid of Dean, but they had the time to get stuff on him. I read in Newsweek that Rove was salivating, because he already had something, or thought he did.

I am sure they will have other stuff to throw at Kerry later. I don't think this is going to work.

6. Depends
If it's false, it means nothing.

If it's true, a lot depends on how Kerry handles it. If he had any role in the girl leaving the country, as alleged, he's toast anyway. It will be played as an attempt to cover it up.

7. Notice how overnight, it went from "major media investigation, to...
"Internet Storm."

Who knows how this will turn out, but of course, it won't matter to Republicans if it's true or not. To them, Kerry will always be a womanizer. All it takes is an allegation.
