15. True, but it was a serious question.
Did the people the OP mentioned plan to vote for Romney because he was cute?

People vote for odd reasons. I have a Republican co-worker who plans to vote for Barrack Obama, unless Fred Thompson gets in the race. When I asked what those two had in common, he said he thought they were both "straight shooters." People vote for weird reasons, and often because the media tells them to vote that way. As with Bush and the beer thing. No one would have thought of that on their own, so the media created it so people would overlook what fucking imbecile Bush is.

So I'm curious whether Romney was "cute" enough for these people to support him based on his looks.

Edited on Fri May-04-07 10:59 AM by w4rma
I don't. Romney, a total unknown outside of Mass is beating both of those two, easily, in the polls already.

I know that they'll listen to Edwards and some might even vote for him.

Romney, a northeastern Republican, puts the South back in play, but only if Edwards is nominated.

30. Repukes have learned
a lot about packaging and advertising. They are masters of spin and appearance versus truth and substance. The corporate, Madison Avenue-ized media assists them and the sheeple fall for it.

Romney is dangerous precisely because he is so slick: looks good (not to me) and appears articulate (unlike shrub) as long as you don't listen to what he's atually saying!

I really fear a Romney/Thompson or Thompson/Romney ticket because of the actor factor coupled with cheating via electronic ballots.

Our guys are better, always have been, but we compete against liars and willful cheaters ... against those who will DO ANYTHING to get and maintain power.

36. The South will not be in play with Edwards.
Women might like his looks, but the white male Bubba swing voter in the South and mid-West does not like HRC, Obama or Edwards. They're losers amongst the very group of people we need in order to flip some red states.

Edwards is too "pretty" for these guys. Seriously. Look at the difference in him and Bill Clinton - a Bubba's Bubba.

19. I saw Mitt the Mutt
...close up once when he was running for gov'nah. Not on purpose; I was just trying to get into the train station. All I can say is that Scarlett O'Hara would die for a waist that small. There was something very unnatural about his appearance....a guy his size should not have a 17 inch waist.

Maybe that Magic Underwear is just very slimming....

22. Not That Good Looking
I would never like a candidate because of his good looks, but I do not think Romney is very good looking. To get back to the main point it is really crazy that some women would take into consideration the looks of a person over his policies. Maybe it is just the dumbing down of our society. I think so much had been made about the appearance of certain candidates. For instance, the stuff about John Edwards fixing his hair. I have been really upset that some television shows have made such a big deal about his hair. In addition, during the Bush/Gore campaign of 1999/2000 the media made such a big deal about who had the best personality and made very little about who had the best ideas. So, I think some of this about Romney's looks comes from the media making such a big deal about things other than the issues involved in a candidates campaign. I guess we have to fix the media.

31. You'd think women would be ashamed to bring up the exact argument used to deny them the vote.
Edited on Fri May-04-07 12:36 PM by slampoet
But when women comment on how cute a candidate is, or how great his wife is, or how they are voting for a woman only because she is a woman (even though they don't like the policies), they are bringing up the exact talking points from 1919 that men used to deny them the vote.

Remind these women that Dan Quayle was selected for his looks.

I know several...and one who admittedly did it twice...it didn't matter what his policies were...his looks were all that mattered...I was totally dumbfounded when she told me that's why she voted for him...This is nothing new...looks DO matter...it's a proven fact..
