Dozens of Heads Were Bowed

By Dana Milbank
Friday, May 4, 2007; Page A02

Let us pray.

Let us pray that, on next year's National Day of Prayer, there is better attendance at the "Bible Reading Marathon" on the West Front of the Capitol.

Organizers put out 600 folding chairs on the lawn -- the spot where presidents are inaugurated -- and set up a huge stage with powerful amplifiers. But at 9:30 a.m. yesterday, not one of the 600 seats was occupied. By 11 a.m., as a woman read a passage from Revelations, attendance had grown -- to four people. Finally, at 1 p.m., 37 of the 600 seats were occupied, though many of those people were tourists eating lunch.

Where was everybody?

"This isn't that kind of event," explained Jeff Gannon, spokesman for the host, the International Bible Reading Association. Gannon, actually a pseudonym for James Guckert, had earned fame in 2005 representing a conservative Web site at White House briefings until it was revealed that he posted nude pictures of himself on the Web to offer his services as a $200-an-hour gay escort.

Let us pray for the power to understand how Gannon made his way from HotMilitaryStud.com to the International Bible Reading Association.

I'm guessing the Remuneration is just fine.

While it's a certainty that he's somebody's favorite sodomite in Bush World, the question still remains: who is "the man in Jeff Gannon"?

The title of the book is "The Book of Revelation." There's no "S" at the end.

And Jeff Gannon as spokesman for the International Bible Reading Association is a sign of the end times. It's not in the book, but I'm pretty sure it's got to be true.

You KNOW there had to be at least a dozen of them in anticipation of such a big day of prayer.

Republicans keep having parties where nobody comes....except their fundraising cocktail parties, where it looks like everybody comes.

Remember rumsfeld's march for the war where hardly anyone showed up?

The republicans don't know enough to be embarrassed.

31. It's Rove, it's got to be
Somehow I knew I'd find you in a Jeff Gannon thread!

It's Rove, although maybe the Decider likes to pat Gannon's head. Only Rove makes sense - well, to me. He's the one with the WH access, he's arrogant enough to have had Jeffy be right there for everyone to see, and Jeffy is still around - he hasn't disappeared, matter of fact, Jimmy Jeff has been pretty arrogant himself.

I think he's Rove's "hot military stud" - I think all the other possible suspects have left the WH to spend more time with their families, but Rover is still there. So is George, of course, but he and Laura retire early, and they're probably both so drugged that nothing could rouse them.

You think I'm making this up. (It's always Poland with us, isn't it?) But a working girl who ran for office in Nevada claims she was hired to join them and ended up...gulp...just watching.

I figure a hooker's word is better than George's any day of the week.

34. I agree about the hooker's word
but, I'm ashamed to admit I never heard about this - where was Laura? Is that why he added "you forgot Poland"? I guess I'll have to keep an open mind about this, but Karl would have had to at least be the enabler.

Also, I'm somewhat sick to my stomach at the very thought of George having sex at ALL - thanks a lot! Maybe that's why I can't envision him with Jimmy Jeff - it's such a disgusting thought. But then, Karl having sex is equally as disgusting - I better go look at pictures of puppies and kittens or something before my beautiful mind becomes more troubled.

That was revolting. I mean, I'm all about the sanctity of marriage (if you don't count getting divorced, or leaving husbands temporarily, or running off...well, never mind), but I don't go PREACHING about my sanctity of marriage beliefs or anything.

But, it's not even the hypocrisy - it's the IDEA of GW having sex with ANYBODY. It's so disgustingly gross.

It does explain why he likes Condi, maybe - she certainly reminds me of a dominatrix - what do you think? Condi, Karl, Jeffy, Georgie...oh, my beautiful mind - I must stop.

I'd kind of like to beat the shit out of him, but I SWEAR it's nothing sexual!

41. Idiots, can't you see it's not THAT kind of event!
"Can't you media-types see that this a-here's not just your average, run-o-the-mill 'event'? No, sir, this ain't the kind where, you know, 'people' are actually supposed to 'show up and participate'! Don't know where the hell you got that crazy idea from. What's that? Well, heck, the hundreds of seats are just here to make sure people have the freedom to choose where they wanna sit. And of course, we need the giant PA system to make sure they can hear okay if they wanna sit towards the back there. Yup, this was all according to God's plan!"

The question I'd like answered, personally, is how come it's okay to hold this event here on this lawn, but it's NOT okay hold a global warming awareness concert on the same lawn? Why didn't Democrats (who actually control Congress right now) refuse to allow this silly thing when Inhofe pulled his bullshit over Gore's concert? Are they that paranoid about pissing off the fundies that they wouldn't even argue against this thing when it would been seen by most as fair retaliation for Inhofe's nonsense? I don't get it, man!
