TPM: On Tucker, Ray McGovern, former CIA analyst, accuses Cheney of being behind Niger forgeries
(April 30, 2007 -- 06:47 PM EDT)

Former CIA analyst Ray McGovern went on Tucker Carlson's show this afternoon and pretty directly accused Vice President Dick Cheney of being behind the Niger forgeries. The reasons for suspicion are plenty. But having reported on this story in minute detail I've yet to find any direct evidence to substantiate that charge. But McGovern says he has evidence ...

1. NOW can we impeach these assholes! Pretty please! - n/t
And Ray... I would be very very careful... if you have the evidence, please just go ahead and get in front of a Congressional committee right away and put this in the public domain asap.

2. Pretty good thread on kos on this, and
I especially liked this one post:

Perhaps This Is Why Cheney Went Nuts

About Joe Wilson and outed Valerie Plame. Wilson's discounting of the forged document hit too close to home.
Think about it.

3. I'm sorry, but if I were behind a forgery, and I knew it was fake,
would I ask the CIA to investigate it?

Suddenly Cheney looks like a brilliant evil genius with an IQ of 13 who does most of his evil planning while sucking his thumb and screaming in surprise and shock when poo suddenly comes out of his butt.

4. Jay Rockefeller asked the FBI to investigate the Niger forgeries. More below.
The Los Angeles Times reported on December 3, 2005, that the FBI reopened the inquiry into "how the Bush administration came to rely on forged documents linking Iraq to nuclear weapons materials as part of its justification for the invasion." According to the Times, "a senior FBI official said the bureau's initial investigation found no evidence of foreign government involvement in the forgeries, but the FBI did not interview (Rocco) Martino, a central figure in a parallel drama unfolding in Rome."

5. And how did Tucker react?
Did he pretend to know more than an actual CIA Analyst?

6. how did Tucker respond?
He challenged him, said that was a pretty serious accusation, and wanted him to present his evidence right then and there. Basically Tucker tried to make him look like an irresponsible conspiratorial nut case, rather than taking what was said in the spirit it was said.

No claim was made to any air-tight evidence, just that he had some evidence that made him believe that's what had happened. Tucker, as usual, was intellectually dishonest and tried to saw off the limb McGovern had climbed onto. No interest in the actual truth. At least that was my take on it.

8. Many have said so - but proof is another story. If it's a person, they're probably dead by now. nt
