I think he could have survived crap from the 90's. That's so long ago. But this looks like to be something that happened after the 2000 election campaign?

And why is Kerry going to respond to this rumor from Drudge? Once he makes it a public issue to the press, they'll cover it 24/7. Has any mainstream media reported it yet?

7. hahahaha! exactly my thoughts, Dookus...
It's like a time-warp. I haven't checked DU since 3pm or so,and 8 hours later, I'm seeing the same things!

Folks need to get over this fast. I mean, who was on Hardball tonight? Bill Burkett talking about AWOL.

Bush's numbers aren't looking so hot.

I think for most folks (except for the true anti-Kerry folks, and good grief I can't believe how many there are on DU), the reaction is similar to mine: "okay, we've heard this before." And while it was true with Bill, and may be true for Kerry, I don't think this will turn folks off anymore. I think the absurd lengths the GOP went through to get rid of Clinton through the Bimbo factor pissed folks off to the point that they just don't care unless it was This Morning. Anytime before that, forget it.

15. There has been a lot invested in this guy.
I hope he comes clean. I don't think we will survive if he denies the relationships. Mrs. Kerry will also need to be present.

6. The latest drudge story
**Exclusive**

Democratic presidential frontrunner John Kerry is planning a response to a DRUDGE REPORT exclusive which first revealed the frantic behind-the-scenes drama surrounding a woman who recently fled the country, reportedly at the prodding of Kerry!

The nature and details of a claimed two-year relationship, beginning in the Spring of 2001, between a young woman and Kerry is at the center of serious investigations at several media outlets.

After being approached by a top news producer, the woman fled to Africa, where she remains, the DRUDGE REPORT can reveal.

9. Weird that it's Africa. Is she staying with Kerry's wife's relatives???
I'm kidding of course. And it could all be bullshit. But of all the places to run off to!

people here are in denial. They either want to cease discussing it or deny its truth. I want to know how we plan on dealing with this.

12. Public figure. Lower standard. It's probably enough that it was reported
in that Boston paper years ago for him to meet the lower standard.

If they name the woman, she might be able to sue, but it's not clear that her character has been defamed. Presumably, she's just a young, single woman and it's not defamatory to say that she had consensual with anyone.

Just guessing.

18. Really ....
JK in court answering questions about this. He can't sue and not show up for depositions and it would all be in public ... yeah, right, sue away.

So he's has through the weekend to bury this story - prove it's baloney or have Theresa discuss any arrangements they might have.

JK made the same mistake Bill did - they didn't realize the rules have changed -the press is not going to snicker to each other but let this behavior pass. They are not JFK and this is not 1962. Now this is no Watergate - but reporters are looking for anyone's pelt they can hang on the wall.

Don't bet against Drudge checking his sources

14. Kerry was already scheduled to be on IMUS. Drudge just connected the
two to make it seem like he's answering charges on IMUS. If you read Drudge, you know you have to think about every word he says to get the sleazy exaggeration.

Unless Imus has a direct link into Drudge, and in that case he would say
"Imus reporting Kerry to answer charges...."

17. What evidence is there that Kerry had an affair?
I haven't seen a single scrap of reliable evidence. Looks like an attempt to distract the media from hammering * (rightly) about his AWOL lies.

19. There are several things that make me skeptical about this story.
Edited on Thu Feb-12-04 11:35 PM by Yo_Mama_Been_Loggin
The first has to do with the dates you bring up. Didn't John Kerry recently have prostate surgery? One of the biggest problems associated with an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer is the difficulty one has maintaining an erection. It's kind of hard to have a sexual affair with erectile dysfunction.

Second, according to the Drudge report, Wesley Clark said the Kerry campaign was about to implode. If the General felt that way why did he drop out of the campaign? Why does he plan to endorse Kerry tomorrow?

Third, this is not the first time Drudge has made false accusations about John Kerry. Remember his claims that Kerry had Botox injections?

Fourth and finally the timing of these accusations coincide with the recent concerns about Bush's national guard service. Remember when former weapons inspector Scott Ritter questioned the Bush administration's claims about WMD's prior to the invasion of Iraq? He was accused of soliciting sexual favors from a sixteen year old girl on the internet.

I would wait and see how this plays out be fore jumping to conclusions.

8. If you make a highly questionable and inflammatory factual assertion about a candidate, you must provide a link to a reputable source to back up your claim. Rumor-mongering is not allowed. Allegedly "innocent" questions which are actually an underhanded effort to spread rumors are not allowed. If you really need to know the answer to your question, try Google.
