New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman Endorses John Kerry
"Strong Advocacy for Working Americans"

This morning, Senator Jeff Bingaman (D-NM) endorsed John Kerry for President. Bingaman is the 11th member of the U.S. Senate to support John Kerry's candidacy.

"It is clear to me that John Kerry is in the best possible position to unite the Democratic Party and our country," said Senator Bingaman. "I have served with him on the Senate Finance Committee and have long admired his strong advocacy for working Americans. He has tirelessly worked to ensure American children have access to quality education, and to expand health care to those who needlessly go without. I have also admired his efforts to develop a rational energy policy that moves our country away from dependence on foreign oil. His distinguished service in Vietnam made him a powerful advocate not only for veterans but also for the men and women who currently wear the uniform. I gladly endorse John Kerry. I know that he will make an outstanding president."
After one year as New Mexico Assistant Attorney General and eight years in private law practice, Bingaman was elected Attorney General of New Mexico in 1978, and in 1982 he was elected to the U.S. Senate. Deputy Democratic Whip in the Senate, Bingaman is the Ranking Member on the Energy and Natural Resources Committee, and serves on the Finance and Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, and Joint Economic Committee.
