K, I have this co-worker who claims he doesn't follow any party, and that he's just "pro-fact." He voted for Regan, Dukakis, Perot, Clinton, Bush. (How much more independent can you get?)
Me, being the liberal I am, struck up a conversation with him tonight at work. I asked, "So, Ken, who are you leaning torwards for November? You've said you voted for Bush, going to vote for him?
His reply, and I quote, "The Democrats could nominate Al Sharpton this year, and I'd vote for him."
I got pretty excited. "So, why the change?"
His reponse: "I just read a lot into his tax cuts, and he's against working people, and he just didn't live up to his campaign pledges, and I fault myself for voting for him."
So, I continued, "So what do you think about these allegations against Kerry?"
His reponse: "Kerry is just human, we make mistakes. The worst thing the Republicans can do is blow this out of proportion like they did with Clinton. It will have no effect whatsoever in how I vote, not even if it's true."
Me: "What do you think about Bush being AWOL?"
His response: "I think it's huge. I mean, if he would come clean about it, I wouldn't mind. But he's lying, and he's trying to disprove it, and he can't, because he simply wasn't there. And that goes against his campaign pledge to restore honor to the white house."
========
I'm feeling good about November. Although Bush's approval ratings are back up to around 52%, and the Repugs haven't tapped into their $200 million warchest yet. It's going to be a struggle, but I've never seen the Democratic party this united. Lets get the vote out!
