President Hillary Rodham Clinton and her Cabinet -- Dream Picks
I'm not necessarily ready to jump on the Clinton bandwagon. But, assuming she wins, here's a potential cabinet. Imagine another candidate in the top spot if you wish, I'm really looking at the potential of a (long-awaited) Democratic cabinet. I realize a lot of these people are elected officials and may not be willing to give up their jobs, but some of these would be dream picks. Others are blank and open for ideas. Just the possibilities are exciting.

President -- Hillary Rodham Clinton
Vice President -- Barack Obama
Secretary of State -- Joe Biden
Secretary of Defense -- Gary Hart
Attorney General -- John Edwards
Homeland Security -- Jim Webb
Commerce Secretary -- Barbara Boxer
Interior --- Ron Wyden
Labor Secretary --
Treasury ----
Veterans ---
HHS ---
Agriculture ---
Transportation ---
Energy --

What do you think?

1. Too many Senators...
We'd lose the Senate with that many special elections...

I like that Jim Webb one though!

Clinton, I'm not sure about Illinois or Delaware, and Arnold would give Boxer's seat to a Republican.

Oh yeah, Wyden. Not sure about him either.

We will need those Senate seats
occupied by Democrats.....Only if a Democrat will fill their seat can they join the Cabinet.

Edited on Fri Apr-27-07 02:57 PM by democrat2thecore
It what it's all about! The campaigns are fun, but ultimately this is what we're wanting - a Democratic administration(!) I don't think that's "lounge" material. Governing is every bit as exciting as being on the outside campaigning to be in.

11. If you're going to create a thread like this for one candidate, create one for ALL of them then

Otherwise it's fucking LAME to push your candidate on the rest of us.

What a dumbass thread.

13. You're welcome to create a thread like this for any candidate you wish
so if you don't think it's fair, go out and do it.

And what's wrong with someone pushing their candidate? Isn't that what a lot of people are doing here?

Otherwise, like I said -- it's a dumbass idea.

And that d2thecore -- is not rude.

I'll be anxiously awaiting the Obama and Biden threads.

I've hung around DU a long time, but just recently started posting. I'm not so new to not understand that when someone calls your thread a "dumbass thread" that it's ---- rude! Put your candidate in the top spot and dream of a cabinet. That's what we all want in January of 2009, right?

21. There are alot of self-appointed "thread police"
around here lately. If someone doesn't like another's thread, they're free to avoid it. I've never understood why some people feel the need to jump in and tell others their thread sucks??

By the way...you've got some good choices in that cabinet.

who has the courage and stamina to stand up for
us in the Senate.

We need all the Senators we can get in the Senate
and more. Just look at the mess because we do not
have enough votes to override Bush.

How about Wes Clark for VP. or Sec Defense.

But, I can also see him excelling in the role of National Security Advisor or Homeland Security director (even though I hope a Dem would get rid of Homeland Security - that department has always sounded so "Nazi" to me).

43. Thank you Sharon!

By statute the secretary must be a civilian who has not served in the active component of the armed forces for at least 10 years (10 USC Sec. 113 - Note that Congress had passed a law to allow George Marshall to be appointed in 1950 despite having only been a civilian since 1945).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Secretary_of_Defense (not the greatest source, but this is accurate)

Clark retired in 2000. He would not be eligible in 2008.

I prefer to see Obama as VP at this point since I worry about his lack of experiance. A VP post would solve that and make him the logical successor.

Personally, I'd put Kucinich in at either Labour or HHS (Kucinich is my pick for pres). Oh, and Wes Clark at Veterans (let's put his knowledge to good use).

Why do so many want Edwards to be attorney general? I of course want him for President, but if not that I want him for Labor Secretary. It may not be as prestigious, but it's closer to his roots, his cause.

Edited on Sat Apr-28-07 08:43 AM by Clark2008
President -- Hillary Rodham Clinton
Vice President -- Barry Schweitzer
Secretary of State -- Wesley Clark
Secretary of Defense -- Max Clelland
Attorney General -- Joe Biden
Homeland Security -- (Would like this department to be dismantled - the National Security Adviser and Defense Sec, with help from the CIA, FBI and FEMA, should be doing this job)
Commerce Secretary -- Jim Sinegal (CEO, Costco)
Interior --- Bill Richardson
Labor Secretary -- John Sweeney (current pres. AFL-CIO)
Treasury ---- Phil Bredesen
Veterans --- Kelly Dougherty (Co-founder and Executive Director, Iraq Veterans Against the War. Wouldn't it be great to have a woman veteran in this position? You can bet Walter Reed would be FIXED.)
HHS --- Tom Daschle
Agriculture --- Chet Culver
Transportation --- Ed Rendell
Energy -- Al Gore
