If the Democrats lose in November, what will do?
There are people who are in this false sense of security that the Democrats have a lock on the president. Let us not forget that Karl Rove and Bush have milions of dollars to spin the hell out of John Kerry (They already are!) and throw everything EVERYTHING at him and the Democrats. What is also disappointing is Kerry just does not appeal to me as Howard Dean does. I still have many questions in regards to Kerry's stances in particularly in regards to Iraq, the Patriot Act, and Free Trade. Expect Karl Rove to expose every weakness that John Kerry has.

I honestly do not think that the Democrats have a lock in the election in November. I must ask you all this question. What would you do if the Democrats blow it in November. What will you do? Leave the party? Leave the country? What? This country is deep deep poop if the Republicans win. You know it and I know it. It could also mean that the Democratic Party could become a minor party or a token opposition party.

Bush went AWOL - I will never do that.

(by the way, who said he's "got a lock on the nomination")

2. I'll try to get myself to Canada
My family is there, and I qualify for dual citizenship. It's a lot better in many ways up there. It's not worth staying in a country that will either be a dictatorship, a plutocracy or a fascist wasteland before too much longer. Sell everything, and get the hell out of Dodge.

3. I would leave the country too!
I am seriously considering going to Amsterdam. I like the liberal atmosphere and not everybody is an uptight right-wing prude. I was there in "92. I had fun and I really felt at home.

4. There will never be one MAJOR party with one MINOR party
This a Democracy on paper, people in the middle will swing towards the Democrats if the Republicans gain too much power. I would also say that John Kerry doesn't have a lock on the election, but certainly George Bush doesn't either.

5. Make the country ungovernable
Sue to challenge election results where there is no paper trail.

Push for impeachment proceedings immediately.

8. I'll Cross That Bridge If We Come To It
I believe engaging in worst case scenario planning like this when we have a job to do is counter-productive.

There will be plenty of time to make plans if Bush wins. The world will not self-destruct overnight, if he does.

I mean, we'll have at LEAST a few weeks...

9. Hey Cascadian !!!
:hi:

I tried to do a poll on this. (My first poll on DU)

It's here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=132&topic_id=316465

Thought I'd get more responses, but I'm thinkin that there are a lot of folks here who don't want to even consider the possibility of losing next November.

Can't say I blame them.

10. Become Republicans, of course
if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Seriously, if the Dems can't beat this president, like a fucking drum, at this point in time, is there really anything left to do? Other than flee?

11. Not A Lock - A Chance
I'm not sure who suggested that a Kerry victory was assured, but as far as I know, people have only suggested that he has defenses against some of Bush's most ready weapons.

16. Stay and fight.
I'm not leaving now. Yeah, we would face four more years of damage. But that's not a reason to throw in the towel. Expatriation doesn't solve much for most people. Sure, I might feel better, but most people don't have the opportunity to expatriate, and I'm not leaving those who can't behind because we lost an election. If things don't swing our way this time, they will in the future. But we have to stay and work to make it happen.

reservations about that too.

It's a distressing thought. I've been clinically depressed since selection 2000  and I am hoping for a positive result what ever that may be.

I've actually somewhat given up, and am ready to abandon any political conscience what so ever. :silly:

I think I'd be happier as an ignorant fool ...

18. There's no reason to leave. There is so much work to do locally.
OK. Say we lose again. That bites. That hurts.

Yet, we need activists all across this nation to work on local matters, to create organizations and work to provide food, shelter, health care, jobs, community development, community connections. Get out there and make a difference block by block, house by house.

Am I depressed to wake up every morning and remember who the president is and what he has done to this country and this world? You bet.

But I am also exhilarated by the work I do each day to provide for individuals as a nurse practitioner, colleague, volunteer, nonprofit organization board member, etc... etc... etc... As individuals, our small contributions might pale compared to the world's problems and compared to the damage caused by Bush and company. But as individuals working together across the country, we can make a difference for ourselves, our neighbors, our communities.

There is no real escape. Different problems exist everyone on the planet. I hope people will stay and fight and create.

Sorry to be all sentimental and soap boxy. I just have to say it.

20. Yeah, real neutral.
"We'll do anything for anyone, as long as it makes us money." Sorry, but the Swiss aren't exactly enlightened folk. Their "neutrality" is calculated. Look at the history of dirty blood money they've been willing to hide for some of the world's nastiest characters.

Sorry, there is no perfect place. Stay and make this one better.
