Join Our Action on Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, simple E action

This morning, Working America is putting the heat on Big Pharma at Wyeth's annual stockholders meeting in Morristown, N.J. The giant pharmaceuticals company (maker of Advil®, Robitussin®, etc.) has stood in the way of negotiating lower Medicare drug prices by trying to block imports of their drugs from Canada at lower prices.

You can join our action at the stockholders meeting by clicking to take action on Wyeth now: http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/wyeth

We brought a Canadian moose to Wyeth's annual meeting in support of an AFL-CIO shareholder resolution. The resolution concerns published reports that Wyeth cut drug supplies to businesses in Canada that sell prescriptions to Americans crossing the border in search of reasonable prices. The moose will point the way to Canada, where many Americans are forced to go to buy affordable prescription drugs.

Tell Wyeth to stop lining its pockets with outrageous profits from life-saving medications. Act now: http://www.unionvoice.org/campaign/wyeth

Mr. Robert Essner, Chairman and CEO of Wyeth

Subject: Wyeth, Stop Blocking Meaningful Health Care Reform

Dear ,

America's working families are facing a health care crisis. Nearly 45 million U.S. residents have no health insurance, and millions more worry about losing the coverage they have.

Medical debt is now the most common cause of bankruptcy. Workers who do have health insurance now pay 68 percent more than they did in 2000. More and more small business owners can't afford to offer coverage to their employees. Something isn't working.

But don't just listen to the facts.

Listen to someone who was hurt by the health care system:

"I work with single elderly people who have no families to assist them. One of my senior citizens has Parkinson's disease and has trouble holding items and doing any type of precision work. She stopped me when I was up on her floor and asked me to come into her apartment for a moment.

"I went inside, and she was trying to use a pill splitter like you get at the drug store to cut her medicine in half to make what she had last longer--but with her hands shaking she just could not do it.

"I told her that was not right but went ahead and broke a rule and cut her pills for her--she was out of money. Old people cut pills in half while our president has laws passed that make it impossible for our government to negotiate drug prices and let our elderly get affordable pills. The president and his party may call them the greatest generation to their face, but when the cameras have gone home, they do not seem to care."

That just isn't right.

Health care should be about people, not profits.

Sincerely,

Take Action!

What's At Stake:

"Old people cut pills in half while our president has laws passed that make it impossible for our government to negotiate drug prices and let our elderly get affordable pills."

Wyeth has stood in the way of negotiating lower Medicare prescription drug prices by trying to block imports of its drugs at lower prices.

Last week, Big Pharma showed its hustle muscle. The pharmaceutical industry—with its herd of lobbyists on Capitol Hill—convinced Congress to ignore constituents and continue to bar the government from negotiating lower drug prices under Medicare Part D. This means we'll continue to be forced to pay outrageous prices for medications, and the profits will fill the pockets of pharmaceutical executives and lobbyists.

We need to send Big Pharma a message that it can't get away with this. It may have the lobbyists, but we have the power of Working America members like you.
