Anyone watch the new "Nova" on renewable energy?
Or the new Frotline on the politics of Global warming?

Both shows aired back to back the other night. Very interesting and enlightening.

On Nova they talked about how in the USA, renewable energy is less than 1%. In germany, they are heading to almost 30% solar. They have gov't buyback so people have an incentive to put panels all over everything. There is no excuse why we can't increase wind and solar to comparable levels.

Frontline had a bit about the new governor of Texas was trying to get 10 new coal fired electrical plants fast tracked, but the cowboys fought back (they noticed global warming was casuing infestations of grasshoppers and other problems). They forced the company to install a bunch of windfarms instead.

Both shows were awesome, but frustrating. Really exposed how the corporate, me first attitude of the USA not only has kept us from the cutting edge of alternative energy, but pisses off the world (e.g. Kyoto).

They had Christie Todd Whitman (fmr EPA head) and she talked about how Bush abandoned his campaign pledge to cut carbon emissions.

All in all very informative.

1. I watched it too. Noticed that many countries are way ahead
of us in solving their energy needs problem. Why aren't we doing it here? The German company making solar panels has a gold mine on their hands....if there's $$$$ in it I'm surprised there's not a bigger push here.

3. "Why aren't we doing it here?"
Because of the campaign donations made to politicians from fossis-fuel energy companies. :-(

6. They'd rather destroy alaska for a few drops of oil
Rather than put up solar panels and windfarms.
