I doubt our country will ever recover from George Bush and the media..
Edited on Wed Apr-25-07 05:37 PM by madfloridian
I seldom watch TV anymore, but I turned it to a few channels today.

McCain was being glorified. I guessed they missed his TDS appearance.

Immigrants were being bashed. Dobbs has caused pure fear of them here in Florida by people I thought were intelligent and sensible.

Duncan Hunter (isn't he the one who said Gitmo inmates were fed gourmet food?) said Reid should step down.

Tucker is a fool who acts too silly to be taken seriously.

I saw Malkin's cute little cheer, and I realized that she and Coulter and folks like them are now intrenched in our culture.

Lou Dobbs "tsked tsked" with that stupid little look he gets...about Dean saying media being kept out would make the candidates speak openly. It was said with the bitter kind of humor by Dean. Dobbs is so damn clueless he did not get it. The media was right there, it was an open press event.

Blitzer for a moment looked like he might have news, but he didn't really.

I feel like they are geared to appeal to stupid. I thought things might change when Democrats won, but silly me....I should have known it would just get worse.

And now instead of Sam I get Lionel. Lionel????

We are so manipulated by our media, and I have just lost hope.

1. The right is pissed off and running scared. Today I listened to Washington Journal and the calls
from the repukes sounded like they were desperate and out of power. Mostly name calling all the time.

The Dem Senator who was on replied to a repuke that called him a disgrace, "everyone is entitled to their opinion but there is only one truth." I thought it was great.

2. Things are truly terrible,
but you should give Lionel a chance. He hates Bush with a passion and is rather intelligent.

3. Reality for me is that my bank account hit $19 this week. Pretty scary.
Bush and the media be damned - most of us are in great danger of going under.

4. They're gearing up to suppress left voices totally by selling us FAUX left voices.
And we are supposed to go along with the charade as if it is good for us.

I hear you loud and clear, mf.

5. Always darkest before the dawn
I think the reason we get so down about things is that we want it to happen faster than it does. But let's look at what is really happening:

1. Fewer and fewer people are watching--and believing--the MSM. Otherwise, Couric wouldn't be in trouble and the latest polls wouldn't show a majority of Americans siding with Reid/Pelosi on the Iraq spending bill.

2. Military families and military personnell are speaking out. Look at the Tillmans, look at Jessica Lynch. They are telling truths that people are believing.

3. People in Bushco are bailing. Monica (sweet irony) Goodling has gotten her immunity. Iglacias says she's the key to the whole USA mess. She's been subpeanoed, and you can bet your bottom dollar she will testify and tell the truth. To do otherwise would defame not only herself, but her universities, and her faith. Even the fundie preachers realize they have to have some credibility, and why hitch their wagon to a falling star?

4. Conservatives are waking up. I don't know if the Brigham Young students suddenly lost the Fox News feed, or whether they suddenly realized on their own what a hypocrite Cheney-and Bush-are.

The wise person knows that one of the qualities of life to cultivate is patience. So be of good cheer! I don't think we'll have long to wait. And let those MSM be the sound and the fury, signifying nothing.

9. I sure hope you are right.
I turned it on when I got up this morning, surfed channels, nearly screamed. Turned it off and did some other things.

I turned it on late afternoon, and it was just as bad. It is like they go in defense mode for Bush.

Hope you are right, fingers crossed.

10. First of all, turn off the television
I've been living around folks that haven't watched TV in years, and they are happier and more focused. I've cut my television viewing down to Judge Judy and Law & Order, and never watch the news. You can get what you need about it right here on the internet, and what's important is always posted at DU. By reading about it instead of watching it, you become more emotionally removed. And that's what you want. That way you can spend your emotional energy focusing on the postive possibilities.

15. Those are really kind words, ayesh....
and normally I would agree with you. It's just been such a dark hour in this country, really since reagan dismantled the first of our underpinning...the darkness has continued to grow for so long. It really has felt like the darkness finally overtook me today. I don't think we'll ever bring our country back to the shining light we once knew it to be.

6. When you were a kid...
did adults ever tell you to not sit too close to the television because you would go blind? They were right.

11. speaking of McCain and media manipulation
McPain is featured as an 'ad' on Yahoo new article pages ... daily, repetitive fixations of McCain and the flag

As an example, I selected the top story currently on http://www.yahoo.com ...

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070427/ap_on_el_pr/democrats_debate

who chose the graphic/picture w/the flag and McCain???

marketing and media image creation-in-process

when will Dennis Kucinich or Mike Gravel have an exclusive interview presented by Yahoo?

speaking of Kucinich and Gravel ... the linked Yahoo article:

"Former Alaska Sen. Mike Gravel and Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio also participated in the debate, lesser-funded contenders who seemed most eager to challenge their rivals."

"also participated"

why not a picture of all the debaters? why just a picture of Biden, Obama, Clinton??

Meanwhile ... the Andrea Mitchell Greenspan youtube passed around today with Josh Marshall exposing her for her 'creative' polls ... if you watch to see her, look at the graphics: The Horse Race: Clinton 36% Obama 31% ... as if no one else matters. Corporate media is creating the choices.

12. I'm with you, madfloridian: It's been the darkest day of my political life today.
Kindasleezy Rice saying she'll ignore a subpoena by Waxman? The FUCKING NERVE!! The LAWLESSNESS!! The ARROGANCE!!

The Department of Justice giving a slide to any sleezy republican that steals BILLIONS of our tax dollars to funnel it back to the RNC, so the repukes can use MY TAX DOLLARS to fund their lies and smears on all I hold dear?

Then all of the spinning by the media...I really cannot tolerate it anymore. They have acted like one of our most ethical congresscritters didn't just submit Articles of Impeachment on the vice-loving president.

I'm ready for a civil war. I'm really ready. Waxman, Conyers, Leahy...they're great, and GOD LOVE 'EM!! But they need for us to finally take the lead and restore our Democracy that the repukes have stolen from us. There needs to be some tarring & feathering going on. We need to storm the bastille.

14. It must have been like this for Lennon in 68
Although i wasn't even alive then! haha! S
Seriously, the Attorney General was before Congress and he lied just this week, AGAIN. and what can the Senate do about it?
They are so arrogant, it is just BEYOND ASTONISHING! I feel like I am living in some banana republic! Where is the backlash! WTF is going on?
Why do they continue to get away with it?

Clearly, the MSM is broken. But as Randi Rhodes says, If it didn't happen on TV, It Didn't Happen! Because Americans are too lazy to learn about what is happening! I try to listen to everyone on my local liberal station but even a newshound like me can't stomach it all. It is just so deplorable! And yet, these media whores like Russert and all the rest, they still have jobs, how is this possible? God I saw Russert on the nightly news for the 2 seconds I turned it on!

This country really needs Serious Counseling to recover from all this BS they(the media, the White House, the pundits) peddle.
