Poll question: If the candidate you support picked a Republican running mate
Would you still support him?

I ask this in all seriousness because that is the choice I am now facing in Montana with our Democratic governor hopeful. So this is what it comes to? The only way to win is to put a Republican on the ticket? Apparently, according to the responses I've gotten so far in the following thread, this is a great idea: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=104&topic_id=1115605

Answers will be most illuminating to me.

2. Yes - what else can you do?
Support the Republican with another Republican running mate? That's twice as bad.

3. It depends...
If the Republican in question is a RINO, I'd have to consider it. Remember some of us used to be of the dark side too. (If you need a hint, check out my screen name)

6. No such thing
Anyone who chooses to remain in a party where Tom Delay calls the shots is complicit with him.

10. A "moderate" would not vote for Tom Delay for House Speaker
or Bill Frist as Senate President.

5. Depends on the republican

If it was someone like Buchanan or that one guy from a New England state that votes with the Dems often, then I might consider it.

7. I don't know, that would be a unique circumstance.
Have to take that on a case by case basis.

9. If he were a true believer, it might be a problem
but if its a half-ass Republican like, say John McCain, I don't know.

11. Sure. Wouldn't have a problem.
It would look a bit odd of course, but there are moderate Republicans and far right wing Democrats (Zen Miller for example). Not all Republicans support or are like Bush. Some are actually, despite Bush's claims, real moderates.

It ultimately comes down to the individual. Not all Republicans are evil and not all Democrats are good. (Yeah, that's heresy around here, but it's true.)

12. If it were someone like John McCain, I actually would be intrigued
by it. Built in system of checks and balances. :hi:
