Where does he think they should have been? They were in their classes when they were supposed to be. Maybe harkening back to his college days, bush thought they should be passed out drunk at the frat house (young republicans circa late 60's, early 70's).

Another dumbass comment by a dumbass republican. And ketchup is a vegetable.

It was intentional cover for the gun lobby to say that.
They would like to frame it as a random "act of god".

1. Like Reagan was "in the wrong place at the wrong time" in 1981
during his assassination attempt?

8. I really
should get a life but I appreciate the business. I'd like to take all the credit but bush and his thugs provide way too much good material Its like taking an open book test with the answers written on the blackboard. (Do schools still have blackboards?)

12. Boss, we have dry erase boards
and technology is even erasing that (pardon the pun). I'm sure you'll get even more good material as long as these clowns are in office.

15. I had instructor duty
in the Navy and I refused to use powerpoint. I'd wear those dry boards out. The Instructor should stimulate the student, not some damn computer animation thing.

10. It's a saying.
My fervently Kennedy-supporting mother said that about JFK. My dem aunt said it about her father's death, crushed by a truck where he worked. My repub father said it about Reagan when he was shot. This working class boy has heard lots of working class men and women say it, in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and in Oregon. Haven't heard a Texan say it, but I don't get out much.

It's not saying they were wrong to have been there; they're saying it turned out wrong that they were there. There is a difference--an overly subtle one for some people, it seems. It's saying it would have been better for them to have been elsewhere at that moment. Unless one wants to say it's best for the students to have died, I can't argue with it.

13. I have to get somewhat
rational. They were where they were supposed to be per their class schedule. They weren't in a dark alley at three in the morning buying drugs when gunfire rang out. I'd buy that statement relative to that example. I don't think its best that any of them died. But getting in touch with my conservative side of my brain (the dead side) I think all students should have at least two automatic weapons with them at all times and carry at least four grenades to ensure the SAFETY OF ALL STUDENTS.

I do understand what you are saying, its almost clicheish, but they actually were at the right place at the right time. They weren't out of place, the shooter was.

14. Isn't that a common enough phrase most of us use?
I dislike Bush but I've used the phrase when something random happens that you can't control. Of course 9-11 was the same way. It doesn't blame the victim or make it less tragic.

16. If some of those students
decided to skip class, go into town, buy drugs on a street corner and get caught in the middle of a gun battle and ended up getting killed, yeah I think that would apply.

But, they were at the right place at the right time when they got shot. I think wrong place and time applies to the shooter.

Two great pieces of advice to live by:
Choose your parents well and
don't be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
