GOP Floating Ted Olson, Head of 1990s Anti-Clinton ‘Arkansas Project,’ for AG

Should Attorney Gen. Alberto Gonzales resign, we have proposed special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald or former Sen. Fred. Thompson as his replacement. Of course, we weren’t serious.
With all this baggage and a likely confrontation in the Senate, would Pres. Bush nominate Ted Olson for attorney general? The answer is sadly yes.

Now there is word that Republican officials in D.C. are seriously proposing Ted Olson to replace Gonzo. Digby asks, “Is this some kind of a joke?”

Knowing Ted Olson’s history, the answer is sadly no.

1. Not just no
but hell no. This guy is a major partisan hack. I'm surprised Bush didn't pick him for SCOTUS.

He'd be worse than Gonzo, because he's smarter and smarier.

2. No surprise.
When one of Bush's incompetent lackeys resigns "to spend more time with his family," he is almost always replaced with someone just as bad, if not worse. John Asscroft was replaced by Gonzo; SoS Powell by CondorLizard. I'd expect Bush to keep digging around at the bottom of the barrel.

3. If Gonzo leaves you can bet big money there will be a recess appointment.
And then when the recess appointment is up the then current AG will resign so Bush can recess appoint someone to finish out his term.

4. First, Gonzo is going nowhere. But, if hell does freeze over, why not Olson?
Surely you wouldn't expect a reasonable nominee.

5. He'll never get confirmed
And I don't think there will be any more recesses any time soon.

7. I'm not at all sure the Dems would roll over for this .......
They're not in a compromising mood. I think they'd allow Hatch to get confirmed (and thus be rid of his ass in the Senate) but not a hardcore ideologue like Olsen.

8. Bing! Bing! Bing!
We have a winnah!

In Washington, memories are very, very long. Whole buffets are laid from cold-served revenge. They know who Olson is and what he did. If he gets the nom, he ain't going anywhere.

As long as Dems hold both houses of Congress, Olson will remain a private citizen.

10. He's also the lawyer for the 2000 * theft of the Presidency
If Dems allow this partisan hack to be confirmed, then they are crazy.

11. There is no way congress would approve this butthole.
And if bush appoints him as a recess appointment isn't there some kind of legal thing he violates if the guy accepts a salary.
