Des Moines Register: Edwards jokes about his pricey haircut
<Adel, Ia. — The latest wisecrack about John Edwards’ pricey hairdo came in Iowa today — from John Edwards.

The former North Carolina senator has been the butt of jokes this week over records showing he spent $800 of donated money on two haircuts during campaign trips.
Speaking to voters here today, he wove a reference to the hubbub into comments about why immigrants flock to America.

“They want to come here because people like me can come from nowhere … and now be running for president of the United States and paying $400 for a haircut,” he said, grinning as the crowd of about 100 people laughed.

Edwards, a Democrat who stresses his blue-collar roots and promises to help poor people, has vowed to repay his campaign for the expense.

In an interview, he said the situation never should have happened.

“It’s embarrassing to me,” he said. “It’s a ridiculous amount of money for a haircut. It was an obvious mistake for the campaign to pay for that.”>

1. I Agree With This Voter
Terry Selim, an undecided voter who listened to Edwards speak in Boone later Friday, said he doubted such a trivial thing would matter in next January’s Iowa caucuses.

“I don’t care what color his tie is, or how his hair looks,” Selim said.

2. It's a very good joke, actually
And the fact that he made it shows he sees the need for closure because the story is still festering out there.

3. Not bad. He's handled a lot of controversies rather well lately.
He seems to have a great instinct for when to joke, when to be serious, and when to pour his heart out. I bet John McCain wishes he had that.

4. Yep. Case closed. The concern trolls can worry about something else.
And wouldn't you know, they've already found a rumor to set kerosene to.

6. Well, I am concerned about the concern trolls.
What if they became convinced that each of our top candidates is pretty darned good. What would they have to be concerned about? Would they miss the money? I mean, how would they find true happiness? I'm very concerned. :scared:

5. The Story Was Emailed to Me
I am the black sheep of my family. I am a progressive while most of my cousins are conservative with a few neocons thrown in the mix. Mind you it would snow in Death Valley on July 4th before I would pay that much for a haircut but on the list of important things to worry about, Edwards haircut doesn't even come close to being on it.

Usually, I try to answer calmly but it struck me so funny I made fun of my cousin when I emailed her back.

OMG Edwards spent $400.00 on a haircut. Why I imagine he goes to Wally World for his suits to save money to indulge himself. Beverly Hills is in an uproar also. They would only charge his a hundred bucks.

Jeeze, so much to worry about--Over thirty troops killed last week in Iraq along with hundreds of innocent Iraqi citizens, Dafar, Gonzogate, millions of missing emails, media hype over a terrible tragedy which by the way caused my daughter's high school to close today and and and.

Sorry, I don't care what Edwards spends on his haircut. I don't worry how big candidates homes are. I judge a candidate on what he/she will do to help our country and it sure ain't a republican.
