1. That does not bode well for John Edwards.

3. I suspect they asked the question in a very unusual fashion
as that has an incredibly high percent of people who are undecided.

5. Yes, and was struck by the high percent honest enough
to say they were undecided. 57%

8. Unusual? It's not a push poll! It's an honest open ended question.
Edited on Fri Apr-20-07 02:29 PM by Hart2008
People here keep posting "push polls", i.e. "If the election were held today, who would you vote for?" In fact, the election is not being held today, so the entire result is based on a fallacy.

When asked an honest open ended question, most people haven't given it any thought. That is true for the entire country, not just NC.

Enough horse race here.

13. unusual is NOT a negative word
I have posted many times that I don't believe the numbers that add up to over 90%

The reason I don't is that by being here we are more likely than average to have a candidate - and though we all have opinions - there are many of us who really don't have a firm choice.

15. I didn't say it was, my dear!
Too many of these polls are getting posted here. Most people are undecided at this point in time. It was unusual to have an honest poll reflecting that the election is not on most people's minds just yet.

6. Golly...pretty weak numbers for Edwards...
Compared to say Hillary's very high numbers in New York, and Obama's in Illinois...and even Richardson's in New Mexico...

7. From the article...
When asked in an open-ended question who they plan to support in the 2008 presidential campaign, 57 percent of respondents said they did not know or it was too early to tell. Of those who named candidates, 10 percent said they plan to support Hillary Clinton, 9 percent plan to support Barack Obama, 8 percent plan to support John Edwards and 5 percent plan to support Rudy Giuliani. Candidates John McCain, Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney and Al Gore were each named by 1 percent of those polled.

As someone in North Carolina I'd agree most nonpolitical junkies don't yet have a strong favorite.

9. That's an open ended poll (which is why no one is over 10%). Real poll: Edwards 39%, Hillary 25%,
Obama 20%:
Raleigh, NC (AHN) - The former U.S. Senator from North Carolina, John Edwards, will be pleased to know that he currently leads his home state among Democratic voters.

In a survey by Public Policy Polling, Edwards leads the field with 39 percent of the vote against the leading candidate, Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) who came in second with just 25 percent.

While Senator Clinton leads nationally, Edwards trails across the country to Senator Barack Obama (D-IL), yet the freshman Illinois Senator only took home 20 percent of the vote in North Carolina.

According to Public Policy Polling, the biggest news last month was the revelation that Elizabeth Edwards' cancer had returned and gotten worse. Despite her medical problems the Edwards family vowed to stay in the presidential race and Edwards has received a bump in the polls nationally and in early primary states. However, the poll finds that Senators Clinton and Obama remain close, and if they perform well in early primary elections they may remain competitive in North Carolina as well.

10. Your "real poll" is only measuring name recognition.
If people don't even know who is running how can they have thought about the election?

An honest question is "Who do you plan to vote for on election?"
NOT
"If the election were held today...." That is what your so-called "real poll" was asking: A question based on a fallacy.

12. In the voting booth, you get a multiple choice ballot, not a fill in the blank ballot. An open ended
poll is wholly unlike the ballot which is why 99.9% of the polling you see is NOT open ended.

14. The list of candidates for the primary is not final!
And I do believe a write in candidate could be possible, so it really wouldn't be strictly multiple choice.

But regardless, the question needs to be about voting on election day, NOT today.

make a decision.

16. Take with a grain of salt. Business journal of right wing area.
It doesn't look as though they targeted likely voters by party. Almost half
of eligible voters don't even show up at the polls, so if they didn't target likely voters, they're going to skew the results.
