I'm Signing On: Joe Trippi Joins John Edwards Campaign
Edited on Thu Apr-19-07 02:59 PM by benny05
Source: John Edwards Blog

Chapel Hill, North Carolina - The John Edwards for President campaign announced today that Joe Trippi will be joining the campaign as a key member of the media team and senior advisor.

Campaign Manager David Bonior said, "We couldn't be more excited to have Joe join our team. He's creative, passionate, committed and shares John Edwards' vision of an America that works for all of us."

Deputy Campaign Manager Jonathan Prince said, "Joe is a true believer who has never been the kind of guy who sits around and waits for somebody else to bring about the change he believes we need. And that's what our campaign is about. That's the challenge John and Elizabeth have laid before all of us. I'm glad Joe Trippi is one of those who's ready to take it up."

Joe Trippi's words:

I really thought that the 2004 Presidential campaign would be the last I would be involved in. I have always wanted to make a difference, but for me I thought those days were over.

A few weeks ago, John and Elizabeth Edwards made their decision to continue, not just John Edwards' campaign for President, but their work together to make a difference for their country.

And that made me realize that I wasn't done trying to make a difference either. Not by a long shot. So today I am joining the John Edwards campaign.

-----------

OMG, what a great surprise.

He and Matt Gross are back together and will help Edwards win the nomination!

Tomorrow starts today!

I usually don't consider blogs to be news sources. I'm not questioning the accuracy or it. I like Mr. Edwards.

12. I don't consider DU a news source either.
Although I come here for news. News sources, to me, are things like "AP" or "NYT" or "People's Daily" or "al Jazeera". But it's really up to the admins what they do with their site. I expect this will show up on one of them soon enough.

media at mid-afternoon. ABC's The Note had it up in their mid-afternoon "Sneak Peak" for tomorrow.

33. O! Not sure about that -- only clicked the "sneak peek" emal from
ABC's The Note.

But it was up on the Edwards blog around 30 minutes or so before that.

If Trippi can lend some energy and ideas to the Edwards campaign, this move is really going to be worth it.

9. He is not!
He worked with our now Ohio Attorney General, Marc Dann's Campaign to help defeat Betty Montgomery. Joe Trippi has great connections, insight which tends to interface with Ohio Democratic wins. The 08 Election will be won with Ohio. John Edwards and Ohio DNC Chairman, Rep. Chris Redfern are loyal friends. When Howard Dean became the DNC National Chairman....One of his first public appearance stops was the Ohio Statehouse. Everyone signed a pledge for "Honest Government" which was targeting the crook, Gov. Taft.

It all is about Ohio. Joe Trippi has made connections here. This is good news.

2. Can't say for sure, but it seems as if Trippi and David Bonior would
have quite a bit in common.

This sounds like a really smart move by the Edwards campaign and should result in a big boost in energy, too. Trippi is not a stay-at-home by any means.

6. Agree. A political campaign is a crucible. I bet you're right on Trippi.
And it's likely to be a plus.

Maybe we'll hear from Howard Dean on Trippi later today. Howard has to stay neutral in the nomination race, but he's an exceptionally keen guy and knows who wants him as Chair and who doesn't.

20. Oh yes, what a fool I was to question it.
I quote from the LBN rules:

5. Whenever possible, post excerpts and links from reputable mainstream news sources that are available online. Do not link to blogs, vanity sites, or blatantly biased sources, except in cases where reputable mainstream sources are not available. Please make an effort to link directly to the original source of an article, instead of linking to sites that have re-published someone else's content, or re-packaged someone else's content as their own. The moderators have the authority to decide which websites are appropriate for posting in the Latest Breaking News forum and which are not.

You won't win many people over by insulting them.

If so I'm not aware ... this was breaking news from the campaign, and they always post to the blog first before releasing press releases. They have great communication with their supporters :)

A Consultant in Dean’s Run in 2004 Joins With Edwards
By JEFF ZELENY
WASHINGTON, April 19 — Joe Trippi, a Democratic political consultant who ran Howard Dean’s upstart presidential campaign in 2004, said Thursday that he had signed on with John Edwards in the 2008 race.

Mr. Trippi, who oversaw the pioneering presence on the Internet for Mr. Dean, the former Vermont governor, as well as his rise and fall, will be a senior adviser to Mr. Edwards, a North Carolina Democrat.

Four years ago, Mr. Dean was the favored candidate of antiwar Democrats. This time, Mr. Edwards is seeking to fill that position in the fight for the Democratic presidential nomination.

In a blog posting Thursday on the Edwards campaign’s Web site, Mr. Trippi, 51, said he had thought his campaign days were over but “too much is at stake.”

The issue is not the link, it is what is linked to. If the link was to the NYT I would have said nothing.

FWIW, I did not alert on it, which might have got it moved sooner. I suppose no good deed goes unpunished.

This is what the Edwards are about, making us understand that there is more to do, we can not give up on America, we need and must keep working to take back this country, and make it right, to show the world that we still are the land of brave and free.

A welcome addition to the campaign!

shout for joy!!!!

48. will this bring in DLC influence into Edwards campaign?
Trippi's is/was a New Dem (DLC) "Fellow" ... whatever that was about ... prolly gave the website a look of doing something ...

why not work with the DNC and Howard Dean? Why with DLCers?

Trippi's not shown as a "Fellow" now ... the website has been changed ... Trippi's listed as a "network member" - right column, 1/2 down - what did he do as a "Fellow"?
(the old websites seem to have been well scrubbed I noticed from searching the wayback machine archives)

New Politics Institute is just another form of former New Dems on Line (ndol) which is now newdem.org
another DLC configuration ... New Democrats ... New Labour ... 3rd Way .... New Politics Institute.

NewDem.org and New Politics Institute are associated with Simon Rosenberg who challenged Dean as Party Chair ...
http://www.newdem.org/

http://www.newpolitics.net/

interesting that Hillary Clinton is front and center on the new politics website

caveat emptor

51. Edwards had a chance till now
damn, I was dreaming of a biden/edwards ticket.

a no lose possibility of winning against hagel's electronic machines.

but now that trippi signed onto the campaign, Edwards is bound to lose.

Trippi tries to let everyone think he was the grassroots engine behind Dean.

more like right place at right time.

when he wrote his book he talked about Dean not being ready for president, more like Trippi not ready to win, ever. too much ego and not enough shoe leather as we street campaigners might say.

truth is zephyr and clay and tim and kim and all sorts of boring everyday grassoots folks MADE the Dean campaign. not trippi.

I remember how quickly he sold out to being an MSNBC pundit and backstabbing dean. the first lesson of elections is you don't backstab your own candidate, as loyalty is table stakes in this market of shifting alliances.

my advice to edwards team, keep one eye on trippi and one eye on the checkbook.

he'll steal ya blind!

and he makes terrible videos. his PR skills next to nothing.

*** But still want edwards and biden to team up, will win north and south in a heartbeat!
