1. ahh..
will they actually carry the story, or just report that Drudge reported it?

That seems to be the way to get spurious stories on the air - just report that somebody else has reported it.

I can't be sure however. It's a he-said she-said thing

7. Well, their decision *could* have to do with whther they want Kerry or
Edwards to run against bush, if this turns out to be extremely damaging. I have a firm opinion as to which guy they prefer.

But it makes no sense that the WH would leak this thing now. They would wait until after our convention.

16. can we stop pretending we know who leaked it
nobody here does. All evidence points to the entire press running this tomorrow morning, although, considering that it's a Friday, that's probably the best thing for Kerry

31. I can see that, IFF they consider Kerry to be the nominee, no matter
what happens. That is, if the DNC has the thing "locked up" now. Then, they can go ahead and begin softening Kerry up.

Otherwise, such a story *could* deny Kerry the nomination, and I can't believe the WH wants that.

15. Democratic "shadow groups"
NBC just did story on 527 non-profit organizations who are placing political ads, and focused mostly on anti-Bush organizations -- associating them with the negative label "shadow groups."

McCain et al are pushing for Federal Election Commission (FEC) action to block 527s from further advertising this cycle (or limiting use of funds to other per-person limits).

21. I tried to reply to 2 threads that were locked, so I'll post this here
My response advice for Sen Kerry;

As self-described compassionate conservatives we all expected greater responsibility from this administration, it saddens me to no end that instead they have taken every opportunity to lie, cheat, coerce, stall, and strongarm their way as bullies instead of the "adults-in-charge" they assured us they would be. These trolling-for-trash charges are the worst of the gutter politics of personal destruction and as such I refuse to pander to the lowest-common-denominator of republican dirty tricks. That was the bad news, the good news is that this type of nonsense ends November 2004!

Most likely they were going to, but thought the better of being the people who did it

48. I am wondering what part of that to consider...
On the one hand...
The NBC story never came through...why we don't know. Maybe NBC never considered it for this evening...

On the otherhand, the "smackdown" nature of the response to an amateur poster is obvious enough for a high school sophomore.

If we are trying to grow each other, then those of us who are in the position to do so must endeavor to lift our chatmates to a higher level, not piss all over them.

The high editorial standards need to be held up for the professionals who occassionally grace these pages.

who thinks the clintons are actally behind edwards, and they waited until clark backed kerry, and the intern news was floated.
edwards/clinton ticket on the way? i think hillary would be just as happy with a vp run and win.

however, dean will rise above, and CRUSH all.
