Bush, the political animal
(cross-posted at Dailykos.com)

More Americans are catching on to the fact that we should never have invaded Iraq due to U.S. and Iraqi casualties, false intelligence, lack of planning, lack of adaptation to circumstances and the war being used as a tool to recruit terrorists. These "light bulb" moments are prompting much speculation about why we really started a pre-emptive war with Iraq.

Yes, king-wannabe George was probably pissed that Saddam tried to kill his daddy. Yes, Halliburton and other war-profiteers were most certainly chomping at the bit to get lucrative (and ludicrous) government contracts. And I am more than willing to acknowledge that king-wannabe was looking to get his hands on Iraqi oil. But I believe that maybe the most significant reason for president dumbo to invade Iraq was to become a war president.

It is now common knowledge, amongst those in the reality-based community and even some major news media who are now acknowledging the horror of our government, that the Bush administration is the most political of any administration in the history of this country. That being the case, some accusations of the "lunatic left" might now be taken more seriously.

The country has returned to a pre-9/11 mentality: the majority of us thinks George is a lazy, incompetent bozo. Remember how he was ridiculed for his endless days of brush-cutting? How he flubbed questions while consciously attempting to prove himself as an adequate president? We all know this did not work and could never work, but king-wannabe tried nonetheless.

Since we acknowledge that this administration is very political, can't we go one step further in our analysis of these crooks and begin to state "maybes"?

A war president is given more power and is under less scrutiny by the press and public. So maybe I can presume that the reason that George just sat there reading about a goat while his country was under attack was not an act of deer in the headlight syndrome, but maybe it was the result of actually reading and acknowledging the August 6th memo. With fear gripping the country, we would look to our president to make sound decisions for us. Therefore, only a few of us on the "lunatic fringe" would even consider second guessing or analyzing his pronouncements and plans. These "nuts" would be ignored in deference to presidential prerogative.

Maybe the look on his face after receiving news of the attack was that of a man agonizing over a decision that he had to make. He did not want the people in the World Trade Center to have to die in order to ensure his legacy, but maybe what had to be done had to be done. The oil execs, Halliburton, ken lay and the rest were counting on him to receive more clout and power to ensure their increased wealth. So maybe, just maybe, the U.S. Govt. let 9/11 happen. Remember, no one could have predicted the airplanes would be used or that the levees would be breeched. Yet what a coincidence that both statements were proven false. Could it not be possible that they DID know, and maybe had other plans for these events?

Maybe fear-mongering 9/11 had a lot to do with Bush wanting to subvert our constitution and our government for political gain. Didn’t the Patriot Act pave the way for Gonzo to fire and replace attorneys with no input from Congress? Maybe the permanent Republican majority had nothing to do with getting out the vote or a response to their "popular" (stop laughing) stands on issues. Rather, maybe it had to do with fixing the elections so that a Democratic President or majority of either house of Congress was an impossibility.

Maybe the corporate bosses of CNN, FOX, MSNBC and respected newspapers did not grill this administration and their cronies because they, too, benefited from the nefarious actions of these thugs. Maybe Bush didn’t care about the levees breaking in New Orleans because Halliburton would have gotten less money for their no-bid contract without significant damage. And maybe Bush would not have been so slow for white NASCAR families trapped in an unhealthy environment for days without food or water.

Obviously, no news organization has the will to pursue these types of accusations in order to clear the air with us tinfoilers. These ruminations are nothing more than speculation, a "some people say" scenario, if you will. But maybe there are 5 million missing emails that could prove me right.
